Audobon Drive Not Abandoned

May 04, 2007 | Other
A recent post about Elvis' former house on Audobon Drive mentions that the house is abandoned. This is not correct according to the previous owner Mike Freeman. Here is his statement:
"I am one of the former owners of the Audubon house. The Audubon house is not abandoned! it is temporarily empty. Mike Curb Foundation and Rhodes College are restoring the house to the way it looked in 1956. I could not finish that restoration. Perhaps when they are finished, we can tour the house again. Rhodes College will use the house as part of their school of music history. Also, the high bidders on Ebay, Mr. Geller and his partners did not pay us for the house. That is why we sold it to Mike Curb."

i 100 agree with mr mike freeman!-i went to memphis for the first time in my life in january 2007(9th-16th)and mike was the "tour guide"..memphis expolrations(in assoctiation with essential elvis uk)..i had a great time mr freean when he took me on a tour of TUPELO and memphis..including elvis former home 1034 audobon drive in memphis!-i even filmed the entire trip om my camcorder and mike let me 'interview him' and ask certain questions about the incident with uri geller who let him down regarding the purchase of the actual home!!..geller was claiming before i went to memphis that he already paid a deposit for the house and so i asked mike freeman was this true?..mike told me the 'whole story' and the TRUTH and the fact that the 'mike curb foundation' have purchased the home as he states in this recent statement(mike is a genuine bloke and e decent man)..leave him alone and stop slagging this very kind man out!!..i had the ultimate dream holiday in january and visited graceland for the first time, and thanks to 'mike freeman' i also visited elvis' birthplace and first home!!..i've got actual camcorder footage to proove this fact.

I am the one who wrote the original article when i came back from my visit last week. I understand Mike Freemans defend, but this a message i wrote at another place: i'm the one who wrote the original article when i came back from Memphis last week. As i went to the Audobon house, it was abandoned...maybe me english is not that good; ut 'empty' and 'abandoned' is exactly the same for me...if you take a look at the picture from last week...does that not look abandoned to you! Anyway, i am VERY happy that there is new future around the corner for this place! I don't like to see it the way it is now... maybe it is an idea to put some sort of sign in the garden that's telling about the future plans. At the time i was there, 3 different other couples stopped and they all said that it looks not in a good condition...so people who don't read all the news sites all the time will be informed that way!

I´ve been to Memphis last week also, and indeed the house is in very poor condition. It made me sad, so hopefully they will do some restorations.

Sorry Charlie..."Empty" and "abandoned" are NOT the same thing. This is how rumors get started!!!

Elvis left there 50 years ago. so who cares, if its empty, full or chock full o nuts, elvis is dead, Graceland was home and will always be home. if anyone happens to see uri tell him to bend a spoon.

I was so relieved when Uri Geller didn't get the house. Can't stand the guy. Not to mention the fact that he is Michael Jackson's best friend - and I wouldn't want him getting his hands on it either. I'm sure the house will be lovingly restored. I just wish I had had the money myself to buy and restore it.
