July 26, 2012 | Music

Although the actual box set isn't available til September 28 (Europe) and October 2nd (USA), the promotion for PRINCE LIKE ANOTHER PLANET - the Madison Square Garden Package has already begun. This ad shows the content & art work of the package: a 48 page booklet, 3 discs including the 40 minute DVD and both remixed live shows from June 10th, 1972.

Since amateur footage is widely available on YouTube, "previously unseen live performance footage" seems to point to professionally filmed footage. A pity though only "key footage" from the press conference is included - a dvd has room for more than just 40 minutes.

Newly remixed by Michael H. Brauer ???

How many minutes will be left (of the 40) after deducting the whole press conference??? Though it all sounds promissing, after reading that the press conf is included I am somewhat hesitant about the real extras.

Natha, as I wrote below and as you can see in the artwork: the dvd contains "key footage" from the press conference, not the entire press conference.

Martin DJ, thanks. You are quite right. Small letters are getting harder to read. Anyway, let's hope you are right too about 'professionally filmed footage', because the pr conf has been out in its entirety for some time now.

Why only black/white photographs on this set ? Or is it because it is a black/white ad ?

I recall reading eons ago, perhaps in the legendary Elvis Monthly magazine (Todd Slaughter will remember), about a tv crew filming the beginning of one of the shows and some of the footage being shown in a news broadcast.

Michael Brauer is a New York-based mix engineer whose credits encompass a wide range of genres and includes The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Coldplay, John Mayer, Ash, My Morning Jacket, and more. He won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album for his work on John Mayer's Continuum, "Best Alternative Album" for Coldplay's Parachutes, and also "Best Rock Album" for Coldplay's "Viva La Vida". Given his credentials, I think he'll bring an interesting mix to these fantastic shows.

I'm glad they only put highlights of the press conference on there, I rather have Elvis singing than talking.

Me too Wiebe. I have the PrConf, buth concise and compleeeete. So no news here. I am only interested IF there are really new clips. Both shows are favorites of mine, yet my ears might not hear the difference between the old version and the remix anymore. Also possibly as my installation is not as advanced as many here seem to have.

I got my copy of I am an Elvis Fan today (fanatic edition) and there's an advertisement in it for Prince from Another Planet and it says there will be a 2 CD Legacy Edition and a 2 CD + DVD Special Edition.

Hope this is not a rip off. I don't like the artwork but the DVD should be great if we can see 40 minutes of the show (and not the press conference or radio jingles/announcements by Col. Parker). Is it real ?? 40 minutes of this great Concert at MSqG would be fantastic....in colours ??
