December 18, 2017 | Other

Elvis Presley had the honor of being a part of the inaugural class of The Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience (The MAX)'s Hall of Fame.

The MAX, opening in Spring 2018, will showcase Mississippi’s legacy in every area of the arts, honor Mississippi’s worldwide legends in arts and entertainment, and inspire tomorrow’s artists to follow their own creative passions.

The 2017 Hall of Fame Class includes Elvis, Oprah Winfrey, Robert Johnson, Jim Henson, Eudora Welty, B.B. King, James Earl Jones, Leontyne Price, William Faulkner, Walter Inglis Anderson, Morgan Freeman, Sela Ward, John Grisham, Muddy Waters, Jimmie Rodgers, George Ohr, Richard Wright and Tennessee Williams.

At Saturday's induction ceremony in Meridian, Mississippi, Elvis' friend Bill Morris accepted the award on the King of Rock 'n' Roll's behalf. Bill, a former Mayor and Sheriff of Shelby County, was close friends with the King of Rock 'n' Roll and has shared his Elvis memories during Elvis Week.

Elvis is a member of many Halls of Fame, including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Country Music Hall of Fame, Gospel Hall of Fame, Rockabilly Hall of Fame, Memphis Music Hall of Fame and Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame.
