March 08, 2007 | Music
Due for re-release from the SBME Strategic Marketing Group on March 6, 2007 is a reissue of the sacred "Ultimate Gospel" compilation. Besides a version with a few changes in song selection ("Miracle of the Rosary" removed and "In My Father's House", "Take My Hand, Precious Lord" and "Evening Prayer" added) there is a second version coming out as a "Collector's Edition" with two additional bonus tracks: "Mansion Over The Hilltop" and "Somebody Bigger Than You And I". This edition is available at Wal Mart.

On the plus side if it's available at Wal Mart it should pick up a good amount of sales.

only one response really....yawn! Yes, I know it's another chance for those out ther to get a Gospel album, and the boss was good at these, but how many chances do you need, there's already enough of these out there.

Just spreading the Message.. Not of Jesus but of Elvis. It never harms being converted to religion while doing some shopping at WallMart

Guys, I'd hardly call it "dumb" for RCA/ Sony/BMG to furnish a single-disc "Best of Elvis Gospel" CD to the public. This one, while not the first one, as was claimed, did quite well in terms of sales and even charts. Consider this just a re-print of an existing popular title that was all but sold out in most of the stores I've surveyed. As a gimmick, they've exchanged some titles, which gives them something to crow about and also to appeal to a handful of obsessive Elvis collectors. That said, I would like to see his three classic gospel albums honored by staying in print, but such is the way of the declining CD-market.

I have the original version. That's fine for me. But I have no problem with these other versions. Who knows? I just may have a change of mind and buy the "Collectors Edition."

This reissue didn't really have a lot to do with Elvis. It was done to promote the 'new' Johnny Cash collection: Cash: Ultimate Gospel which has the same lettering and cover design, but is in black (of course). These collections aren't a lot better than the public domain stuff that is appearing everywhere. It's hard to even remember getting excited about a new RCA release.
