American Way, Volume 4: Sound Of The City

Today we receive the announcement and some sample pictures of Volume 4 in the great "American Way"-series: Tired of press releases promising a lot but in reality delivering very little? We are. So we won't waste your time with cheap PR talk here. If you have the first three volumes in the 'American Way' series you'll know what to expect from this new one. For those who don't see the significance of the cover photo or the connection to the musical contents, perhaps a little explanation is in order. The photo, taken by famous Memphian Robert "Bob" Williams, shows Elvis, Red West and cousin Junior Smith cruisin' on Main Street on a summer night in 1956. It was on Main and Beale that the teenage/ young adult Elvis Presley absorbed and soaked up the musical sounds of the City of Memphis. These influences shine through in some of his best ever studio recordings laid down in his hometown. Sun, American Sound, Stax...those recordings echo the sound of the City of Memphis. Also a little different is that part of the 16-page bonus booklet is devoted to '50s RCA paperwork, rare photos of the studios he recorded in and unseen pix of Elvis and Scotty at Radio Recorders - all under the heading 'Another Place, Another Time'. "True Love Travels On A Gravel Road" session: 01. True Love Travels On A Gravel Road - takes 2, 3 (ending only of take 2 + complete take) 02. True Love Travels On A Gravel Road - take 5 (complete take + rehearsal) 03. True Love Travels On A Gravel Road - takes 6, 7 (2 x false start + complete take) 04. "Power Of My Love" eseesion: 06. Power Of My Love - take 1 (rehearsal + false start + complete take) 07. Power Of My Love - takes 2, 3 (false start + complete take) 08. Power Of My Love - take 4 (4 x false start + rehearsal + "Are You Waiting Just for Me" one line) 09. Power Of My Love - takes 5, 6 (long false start + false start) 10. just recieved my copy from the excellant now dig this magazine and very impressed indeed!-the studio banter is amazing and the xrated lrics from elvis is very funny to jear, tje amount of times he says "dear goergie" is hyserical and very enjyable to listen to!,what makes vol 4 the best out of the series so far is the sepurb stereo sound and the studio chat..far better than any previous import cd's!..all in all,a welcome release and possibly the best cd out of the series so far/..all in all,a welcome release and puts to shame the rca/ftd lable..10 out of 10.(come on rca/ftd start releasing stuff like this and the fans would lap it up)

A volume 6? No, I dont think so. These guys were ever so lucky to "unearth" some unreleased material for vol 5. Any suggestions what to use on the cover, next time? I will gladly pass it on to them... vol 4 is released today, so they tell me...

The entire "American Way" series is essential and this one is sure to be as well. I won't miss it.

Some complain about the cover artwork..I don´t . I am just interested in the contents and that`s a winner.

Im sure, some cheapo label will do just that: after volume 5 hits the streets, put 'm together in a little box, leave out the 80 pages that make up the 5 bonus booklets, supply poorly "new" made covers, no liner notes, grab the money and run! Volunteers can line up now.By the way, gentlemen at FTD: better hire these American Way designers for your regular cd titles, and books. These guys know their trade.

They should make a box-set of all these CDs.

Ftd could put out such products but choose not to,and by that i mean the quality,to think a collectors label give u nothing but a digi pack and no liner notes to me is amazing, although these sessions are not my fav i know for many fans they are,and these releases have the high quality to which all products should be judged, great work all the way around!
