Alright, Okay, You Win

Since the late 70s, there were rumours that the tour opening in College Park was a complete disaster - one of the worst Elvis concerts ever. This rumour was first published in Jerry Hopkins' book, and it was repeated in various publications so many times that almost nobody had any doubt. In 2006, Straight Arrow released a CD called "CHAOS IN COLLEGE PARK" which was an eye-opener, and proof that it was rather decent concert with some fine performances, too.

According to several books, the Detroit, MI, September 29th, 1974 afternoon performance was another of the most controversial Elvis Presley events. In a recent book, "DAY BY DAY", it's said that Elvis was on stage for 30 minutes only, giving his worst concert of the tour.
In August, Straight Arrow obtained a bunch of tapes, among them a 1st generation copy of a previously unknown audience recording of this Detroit concert. The producers decided to release this particular recording because it is an interesting show in good sound quality. Will another myth be shattered? Is the show as bad as its reputation? Judge for yourself. It's worth pointing out that the running time is about an hour, and not 30 minutes.

As you've come to expect from Straight Arrow, the tape was completely restored for your enjoyable listening. The disc is accompanied with a deluxe 16-page booklet, including critical liner notes and a collection of photos taken in Detroit on Sept. 29th, October 4th and in South Bend on September 30th, 1974. "Alright, Okay, You Win" will be released in early October.

FTD isn't all bad. I have a few FTD releases that they'll have to peel my cold dead fingers off of after I die! FTD isn't all good. They put out some crap once in awhile. Oh well, the bootleg market makes up for what FTD lacks. As a life long Elvis fan, I'd much rather have FTD around than not. I just ordered 3 FTD's this week, Nevada Nights, One Night In Boston, and the pre-ordered 48 Hours to Memphis. I also bought the Elvis "Reloaded" import box set. It's a happy world for an Elvis collector. As far as the pricing thing goes, I do feel for the fans that can't afford the cost, but I hardly see that as FTD's fault.

I could not agree with Benny more, I feel quite offended when other seek to "open my eyes" with regard to Elvis. I have been around the block many times and do not need educating about Elvis.

Im with you santa about ftd, many fans settle, there just glad to have a collectors label even if its ran for money only, and they get people like lene to do the sound even though fans say she is alful. Its always easy to agree with the majority, many dont bother giving there not so great review of ftd because they know many will not like harsh things said about ernie and ftd. Im interested in very little from ftd, stage rehearsal was a joke, still not one complete rehearsal from ftd

Santa, I've been reading your postings on almost every topic you found it necessary to give a reaction. The only thing I found was moaning, criticizing, bashing, complaining....... you name it. Nothing wrong with giving a personal view or opinion, but there are limits....!You will "open the eyes of some fans" ? As far as I'm concerned the only thing you obtained so far is succeeding in closing mine, so I don't have to read your negative mumbo jumbo anymore. Good luck to you in your further life, but IMHO "fans" of your kind can be missed like toothache.Jeeez ! OVER AND OUT !Always El.

It is a bad one, right ... as long as people react like you. I can't change the world but I will open the eyes of some fans. Hope you don't mind, do you?

500 CDs selling for 20 Euro on Ebay. One CD per month. Adds up to 10.000 Euro additional monthly income minus the few Cents a CD costs when you deliver a ready burned master CD enhanced at the home PC. . Should be enough money to buy a few more cheap audience tapes. I always wonder why people can buy new CDs of living popstars for 10-14 Euros but the release of a cheap Elvis audience CD raises 20 Euros and more. No royalties, musicians etc. paid. Recently the labels are anouncing two CDs at the same time. Thus saving time and work but double the income. And the fans ... pay. They pay for faked FTDs. They pay for horrible overpriced CDs with sound qualities that make my cat run away. Elvis-Fans: You don't need to rob them out. They give their money voluntarily. But getting away from the surroundings this CD is highly welcome.
