4 FTD Titles Deleted

August 29, 2006 | Book
Follow That Dream Records has announced the first deletions from its catalogue of Elvis CDs. Here is the message from FTD producers Ernst Jorgensen and Roger Semon:

When we started FTD we thought that the interest in our releases would be limited to a 12-24 months period. We were wrong as many titles keep selling for a long time and consequently need to stay in the catalogue. However, at this time, we need to phase out certain releases, as the numbers are too small to justify the expense of reprinting. The following titles will be deleted when the remaining stock is sold: Out In Hollywood, Silver Screen Stereo, Fame And Fortune, and The Way It Was.

That makes them collectors items I guess. Not surprised by the way that Out In Hollywood and Silver Screen Stereo are among the deleted titles.

These titles in addition with the Top-FTD-Charts proofs me right. The collectors need more studio-sessions from the later years. But everything regarding these years is not yet announced or postponed. Very sad. It shows that they keep their treasures for as long as they can and leave the fans standing in the rain. More of my friends waited for the import "Let it Roll" as for the "Elvis Presley" FTD released on FTD a few days ago. Very strange. Don't you think so Mr. Joergensen?

Do you think that this will make theese releases much more expensive or rare? Maybe i should get them before they are out of stock? It would be kinda sad if can't get them when the time comes that i have them all=(

I'm not really surprised. The selections from these cd's will be on other products. As they release the soundtracks on FTD, the cds mentioned will become redundant. Does this mean there will be an FTD release of 'That's the Way It Is'? We already have a boxed set from BMG (I have it). Other than 'Ghost Riders In the Sky' which isn't on it, the FTD release wasn't really necessary. Please restore the original catalog albums...forget these pointless genre cds.

Santa Claus is right. Most Elvis fans want more outtakes from later Elvis studio sessions. They keep their treasures for later ? I don't know, lets hope so. I think their is not much left except for the soundboards of the 70's of course. Isn't it weird that the FTD label hasn't released a On Tour 1972 show yet. What about the 1971 studio session ? I still hope for a very good soundboard show from a late July 1975 show.

When FTD began being released, didn't Ernst say that there would be one print only of each release, and that the master of the CD would be thrown away, making each copy a collector's item? Does anyone remember that?

I'm grateful for the FTD label. Dixieland Rocks and The Jungle Room Sessions in particular are fantastic. Elvis New Years Eve is another favorite. Along that line, FTD would make a bundle of money if it released some of the better "import" soundboards such as Goodbye Memphis, and Guaranteed To Blow Your Mind. Keeping my checkbook ready and my hopes high!

FTD's press release read: "FTD plans to release three or four packages per year, providing there is sufficient interest. [...] FTD will only produce marginally more than the collective total of advance orders to avoid stock risk and warehouse expenses. Only if repeat orders are very significant, will FTD reprint. Each release will follow a quick path: "It's coming - it's here - it's gone." Apparently until now repeat orders have "very significant"! :-)

Hey somebody use this idea with the regular catalog and this time only delete titles that are pointless and keep the classic in print, ftd as anyone could guess by now has a bigger audiance than anyone will admit, and they have had a huge success without any promotion, the book being deleted only gives me the idea that the rehearsals on it will be put on a new ftd release, and of course we all know that the live cuts featured in that book cd set will appear on other ftd titles as complete shows! While i understand the live cuts being put onto cd's with the complete show ,id hope that they would leave off the rehearsals on another reheaarsals disc, since i dont wont to feel i pay $65 for nothing

Hey Marten, I believe you are right. I remember before Burbank 68 was released they said that there were going to be a certain amount released then the master destroyed.

For me, the best FTD Cds other than those 7" Formats are these 3 Cds- OUT IN HOLLYWOOD, SILVER SCREEN STEREO & FAME AND FORTUNE. I'm happy that they will be deleted soon, making them super RARE and real Collectors' treasures. Let those who didn't bother to buy them or taken them for granted kick their own backsides in years to come.

I think it's no problem of deleting these cd's. I assume most of the fans have them for years now. ftd: release a 75 min. cd full of 71 studio outtakes, madison have given us some on " let it roll" , there must be much more of it!!!

I thought they were great too CD King. Some of the later releases follow a specific event, be it from a recording session or a certain movie for example, but "Silver Screen" and "Out In Hollywood" cover something like 22 movies.

CD King - Those are my favorites also. I play them much more than the live shows.

If you havnt bought the cd's id advise you not to if your going to by the classic and movie upgrades on ftd, cause it will be covered on those, oh though i dont like the classic series, this is how thgins will be done, thus taking away the original idea of ftd, sorry just me oppion!
