Wisdom of the Ages

Rating:
3.6 / 5

Words & Music: Bill Giant Bernie Baum Florence Kaye

Listen, to the wisdom of the ages
Listen, to the words of many sages

Live each day, as if it were your last
It's written in the stars, your destiny is cast
And that hourglass, runs too fast no doubt
For the sands of time are running out

Listen, to the wisdom of the ages
These words, can be found in history's pages

Live each day, for happiness can't wait
And love while you may, but heed the hand of fate
If the finger points, it's too late no doubt
For the sands of time, are running out
But the man who turns, and escapes somehow

Is the wisest of men
And to such a man, I'd bow

Actually, not too bad considering. Decent lyrics and a strong melody. Much better than anything from the movie. Too short however (again!) The other bonus song Animal Instinct also wasn't too bad.

Unlike most of the songs that were recorded for the movie "Harum Scarum", this song actually tries. It did not make the final print of the film, but rumours have it that there were prints in theaters in the middle east that include both this song and "Animal Instinct". It isn't one of Elvis' better songs and the lyrics are awkward in places and poorly phrased, but it is at least palatable and interesting. 2 1/2 stars.

JUst listened to this song on the radio and it isn't a really bad one. Could have been longer.

I like the ballads from Harum Scarum with their eastern feel, but they tend to suffer from being flat in their recording. A bit of echo on this soundtrack improves these ballads to something quite pleasant to my ears. -3 stars

Not as atrocious as some of the other film songs from this era, but certainly not what The King should be releasing in a crucial musical year like 1965. Too bad he didn't say damn the movie contracts and soundtracks and just go into a studio and record real music to compete with the artists of the day. Why?

Unlike the most i kinda like this soundtrack,is total different from what he had recorded. 31/2 stars.

I've always liked this song immensely and I've always been a big fan of the entire "Harum Scarum" soundtrack album. The middle-eastern flavor of this album makes it a unique and fun Elvis album and it gave Elvis' music catalog more variety.

This has quite a nice eastern sound that works well. Too bad the song itself is not that great.

See we're still on the Harum Scarum soundtrack; why? A bad movie with a bad soundtrack, period. Nothing from this movie soundtrack is worthwhile to be honest. Nice eastern sound my butt. What did one expect considering the crappy plot?
