Why Me Lord

Rating:
3.8 / 5

Words & Music: Kris Kristofferson

(Why Me Lord? What have I ever done
To deserve even one of the pleasures I've known
Tell me Lord what did I ever do to deserve loving you
And the kindness you've shown)

Lord heavenly Jesus I praise Him
So help me Jesus I know what I am
Now that I know that I needed you so
Help me Jesus, my soul's in your hands

(Try me Lord, if you think there's a way I can ever repay
All I've taken from you
Forgive Lord I can show someone else
What I've been through myself
On my way back to you)

Lord heavenly Jesus I praise Him
So help me Jesus I know what I am, Oh yes!
Now that I know that I needed you so
Help me Jesus my soul's in your hands
Jesus my soul's in your hands

This song never did it for me. Probably too much JD.

This is such a beautiful song, but I wish that Elvis had sung all of the lyrics of this gem instead of just a small portion of it.

When he wasn't trying to make JD laugh with his quips, this was a nice gospel addition to the concert song list. A show case more for JD than Elvis, it came really alive when Elvis joined the choral segments.

This is one of the best gospel songs, Love JD's voice and so did Elvis

A nice gospel tune and it shows a very generous Elvis in that he lets JD shine. Still I would rather hear Elvis sing it all the way through with JD and the Stamps backing him up. 3 stars

The song isn't bad, but JD is too much up front for me. Elvis should've done the whole song himself.

When I was a child, before I had ever heard of Elvis (before he died), I used to hear this song on a religious radio station my grandmother used to listen to. They would go through to entire rosary every night, with some gospel music before and after. I had never heard a voice so deep. This radio station always played JD's version of the song, live, with Elvis singing along on small parts of the song. Many many years later, after my grandmother died, and Elvis died, I started collecting Elvis music and was really shocked to find this song on Elvis Recorded Live on Stage in Memphis! I had no idea there was any connection to Elvis! This always brings back a lot of memories for me.

It is a very good song by Kris Kristofferson. I have always liked Elvis' way of doing it with JD! Still, I would have loved to hear him do a proper studio version on his own!
