True Love

Rating:
4.2 / 5

Words & Music: Cole Porter

Suntanned, windblown, honeymooners at last alone
Feeling far above par, oh how lucky we are
While I give to you and you give to me
True love, true love
So, on and on it will always be
True love, true love
For you and I have a guardian angel on high
With nothing to do but to give to you
And to give to me love forever true

One of the few 50s tracks I can't stand. Boring as hell.

When I was a young lad the Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly version was a great favourite of mine. Sadly this performance by Elvis just doesn't have that same sparkle, and although I never skip it, just does not have the same impact of many other ballads from this era.

It's a beautiful song, but a duet would've been interesting. If I recall it right, someone from Hill & Range or RCA wanted Elvis to record a song, but Elvis got "sick" off them pushing him, that he recorded True love as a protest.

Acceptable but the inclusion of "Is It So Strange" on side 2 of the "Loving You" soundtrack album would have been a much better song to include rather than this "puppy".

This is one of those few instances that Elvis did not improve on other versions. The famous duet was quite enjoyable. His version is bland and seems to be just an album filler. And that was a shame as there were so many recordings taped in that time frame and were only released many years later. This recording did not do justice to Elvis in that period. Period.

Always liked the original Crosby/Kelly version.Elvis' version didn't improve on it at all and to me suffers from it's bad arrangement.Too much of the Jordanaires is overpowering.Although Elvis was in fine voice.
