Tonight's All Right for Love

Rating:
3.6 / 5

Words & Music: Abner Silver Sid Wayne Joe Lilley

Hold me tight the moon's so bright
Tonight the night is right for love
As warmed by one as stars are bright
I hold you oh so close my dear
Things could be that magic kiss
That night of this we've waited for
Oh we could fly right up to the sky
How real it all seems to me
That summer night dream to me
Can't you see that tonight's all right for love
Oh we could fly right up to the sky
How real it all seems to me
That summer night dream to me
Can't you see that tonight's all right for love

The lyrics should be " As one by one the stars appear" & "This could be that magic kiss". Because Tonight is so right for love was based on Offenbach's "Barcarole" and still under copyright in Europe, a substitute was needed for the European market. So the melody of Strauss' "Geschichten auf dem Wienerwald" was used. Joe Lilley, co-listed as author, was Hal Wallis musical director. Not as good as Tonight is so right for love, but close.

And it should read 'night of bliss'. The movie GI Blues was compared to the movies of the fifties no more showing the spunky Elvis, the Rock star, the young man seeking his way in society. After being a private his characters were less thrilling and as the years pass by more predictable. The movies were more in the line of 'The Road to ...' (Hope and Crosby). You knew what to expect. As such there was/is nothing wrong with that, as they are enjoyable, though I would have prefered a more refined and in-depth story-line. Yet, they fell into line with the mood in the sixties. Besides that it is nice to have musical like movies as one tends to take things in life too heavily already. This song is a joyful song about the basic human emotion. And the nice tune is uplifted by the wonderful voice of Elvis. I recall the naughty look in his face whenever I hear this song. No more 'catch a falling star', the night you waited for is at hand, within reach. You only have to take it. Like so many opportunities in life. You only have to see it and take it. That's what my sentiment is whenever i listen to this song.

Sung to a well known melody, this performance has never quite clicked with me It is pleasant enough, and by no means a clunker, but gives the impression that it has been cobbled together in a hurry, and at 80 seconds far too short to make a big impact. - 3 stars

As previously stated this one is a substitute for "Tonight Is So Right For Love" for the European market. I prefer TISRFL, but this one is a nice, listenable tune. 4 stars for TISRFL and 3 for this one.

I've always liked this song immensely and I've never skipped it. Elvis' rendition of it was marvelous. I like this song and "Tonight Is So Right For Love" equally. I rate both of those songs 5 Stars.

A typical movie tune. Listenable, but nothing special. A filler to say the least. 2 stars.

Tonight's All Right For Love is a pale imitation of Tonight is So Right For Love. 2 stars.

Not my cup of meat. The original version is much much better, as he says in the movie it oozes

That "right up to the sky" line gets me all the time. Terrific harmonies on that part. Four star tune!
