The girl I never loved
Will never know I cared
And all my dreams of her
Are dreams I'll never share
For I want her and I need her
And I know it might have been
But it ended long before it could begin

The kiss I never got
Somebody else will take
The plans I never made
Somebody else will make
Oh I'm lonely, I'm so lonely
'Cause it's her I'm thinking of
But she'll always be the girl I never loved
Never loved, never loved
Recorded: 1967/02/21, first released on Clambake

Bad song, even worse production, completely out of touch with the times, trends, sounds and musical efforts of the swinging sixties. It´s a real shame that Elvis´vtalent was wasted on such mediocre material. Nobody would even talk about such a song if it hadn´t been recorded by the man who turned the world of popular music upside down all by himself just a decade before!

A pleasant recording that Elvis delivers with sincerity. There are better movie ballads though such as They remind me too much of you or Tender feeling. Three stars for this recording.

Elvis is "The King" of everything and songs like"The Girl I Never Loved" is no exception.

Its 1967. We have had enough of these situational movie songs by then. The people that are saying this would have been a hit I'm sure were not around and buying records back then. As a 16 yr old I knew this song was just another retreaded ballad with a different titlte. Pleasant? Yes. Over done by 1967? A triple yes! No way would it have been a hit in a pivotal year like 1967 where Elvis was considered passe by most teens. I can enjoy it now more than I did then, but still not a soundtrack I play very much if at all.

i've always liked this song and with better production and this could have been a hit. 4 stars

I have always loved this one and while the production values leave something to be desired, the way Elvis almost sobs the lyrics tugs at my heart everytime. A 3 star song, but due to Elvis' vocals I give it 4 1/2 stars.

Way overrated , but when you have this on a Clambake soundtrack I guess it sounds like Yesterday. Lyrics a 5 year old could compose. Poorly produced as well.
