Sweet Angeline I loved you much more than poets say in rhyme
Just for one short time

Sweet Angeline remember though we've not seen the summer through
I lived only for you
I'm only human and I realize it's no use trying to disguise
My love for you Angeline has ended
So let's be thankful now not sad
For the little love we've had

Sweet Angeline remember though we've not seen the summer through
I lived only for you
I'm only human and I realize it's no use trying to disguise
My love for you Angeline has ended
So let's be thankful now not sad
For the little love we've had

I really love this one a lot. At a time when the group Bread was on the charts with songs like "Diary" and "Aubrey", this really was easily in the same league and deserved more recognition. I could see it as a single. However, like so much of Elvis' 70s output, there are too many voices on it. So the production, to me, dates it. I say this on so many of these song comments, but if this was just Elvis and an acoustic guitar, and maybe a small string section, this would be even more remarkable. I still find it beautiful, and especially on the new Stax set.

A beautiful ballad sung to perfection by our boy using that soulful voice so full of emotion and meaning . - I play this one a lot - 5 stars all the way.

Elvis' voice is really very beautiful on this one. The musicians are Bobby Manual, guitar; Johnny Christopher, acoustic guitar;Donald Dunn, bass; Al Jackson, drums. Overdubs were done later as well as Elvis voice, who recorded his at his Palm Spings home on 22 September 1973.

My favorite song on the LP "Raised On Rock". A perfect ballad with Elvis in total control and great support by the band, the Stamps and Ms. Westmoreland. 5 stars!
