Santa Claus Is Back in Town

Rating:
4.7 / 5

Words & Music: Jerry Leiber Mike Stoller

Well, it's Christmas time pretty baby
And the snow is falling on the ground
Well, it's Christmas time pretty baby
And the snow is falling down
Well you be a real good little girl
Santa Claus is back in town
Got no sleigh with reindeer
No sack on my back
You're gonna see me comin' in a big black caddilac
Oh, it's Christmas time pretty baby
And the snow is falling on the ground
Well you be a real good little baby
Santa Claus is back in town

Hang up your pretty stockings
And turn off the light
Santa Claus is comin' down your chimney tonight
Oh, it's Christmas time pretty baby
And the snow is falling on the ground
Well you be a real good little baby
Santa Claus is back in town

One of the many classic tracks from Elvis' Christmas Album, one that I never get tired of hearing

I'm sure even Santa Claus himself likes that one...

The best rock n roll Christmas song of all time, hands down. Leiber & Stoller & Elvis. A combination that never failed to deliver. I wish this one got played as much as Blue Christmas.

THE Ultimate Rock'n Roll Christmas Song. Love the original (my wife HATES it) and love the 1968 Special version. The TTWII rehearsel version is too soft, not rock 'n roll enough.

I like thiso one, but "Here Comes Santa Claus" is more to my taste. I'm pretty traditional when it comes to Christmas songs.

Elvis proves to be a superb bluessinger here. I wish he would have done more things like this. The only stain on this otherwise immaculate recording is the irritating backing vocal by the Jordonaires.

I have nothing with Christmas and Christmas songs, but this one rocks! This should be on the regular Christmas song list. I would tune in on a program!

"Santa Claus is comin' down your chimney tonight" yeah REAL Christmassy! ;-) Without a doubt the raunchiest carol ever recorded. Love it!

This is just another great kapow-song from the Elvis & Leiber/Stoller hit factory. I don't agree though, that Leiber/Stoller and Elvis always delivered dynamite songs. Anyone remember Three Corn Patches? I try not to!

Elvis and Christmas. I get up, have a great 'Ulster Fry' for breakfast, wait for my son, daughter-in-law & grandson to arrive. Then we all sit around our 'real' Christmas tree and open our presents, with an Elvis Christmas Cd playing in the back ground. One of the tracks has to be 'Santa Claus is back in Town'. It's only May but I'm looking forward to yet another Christmas with my family & Elvis.

The "Jailhouse Rock" of Christmas songs. Elvis, the rocker, never sounded better than he does on this one. If you don't give this one 5 stars, then I would dare say you don't understand or appreciate, Elvis, The King Of Rock N' Roll".

Great Bluesy Rock and soul song/performance from the first Christmas album. One of my favorites, along with "Santa, bring my baby back to me". I know its not Traditional Christmas music, but its fun !!!

Absolutely five star song. Not only his best Christmas recording, but I dare to say amongst the 20 finest recordings of his entire career.

An absolutely outstanding and stunning track, and not only is it easily the best Christmas song he ever recorded, it vies for consideration as one of the best 50's tracks he ever recorded.

This is such a spectacular, electrifying, groovy, unique, catchy, fun and stunning track and Elvis easily has the very best rendition of it. It's a true masterpiece of a record for sure. It's one of 24 songs that Elvis recorded that was written by the brilliant and iconic songwriting duo Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.

Imagine putting on the Christmas album and not expecting this. Must be a shocker. How can you rock so hard without guitars? Simple when you have Elvis, DJ & Dudley Brooks. Elvis came up short one song for the Christmas album, so Leiber/Stoller wrote it on the spot, naming it Christmas blues. It took Elvis seven takes to record. Then it was renamed into SCIBIT. My favourite Christmas song off all time.

Doesn't get any better than this. This his 1st Christmas LP was his very best. His version of White Christmas is second to none. 5 Stars +

I remember hearing this song for the first time in 1969 when my mom bought me this Christmas Album. I was expecting movie soundtrack type performances. And when the "Christmas, Christmas, Christmas" opening started, I thought my fears were justified. But them BLAM, the drums kicked in and then came Elvis' rockin', bluesy voice and I was BLOWN AWAY!! I LOVE the '57 Christmas Album, and this song is the best Christmas song ever recorded.

One hell of a way to start a Christmas album and it's Elvis, no ifs, ands or butts as this is the one and it can never be mistaken for anyone else but Elvis. I enjoy ever song on his 1957 Christmas Album; my favorite "I'll be home for Christmas" and of course the all-time Elvis hit "Blue Christmas". Wish side 2 would have had better songs.

Just one of the great tracks on the Elvis Christmas Album, it may have been 1962 but this was my first Elvis LP. 😇😇🎄🎄

Along with Blue Christmas it's one of the best tracks on the album. And not least one of his greatest rock'n roll songs too. Elvis in the 50's could do no wrong imo!

Elvis at his best rocking self. I dont think Christmas when I hear this song. I just think Elvis going against the grain and doing Christmas his own way.
Stevekimb1 wrote on December 02, 2020
Elvis’ greatest Christmas rocker. Gritty and sensuous. Playful and naughty. It is a defining song in the canon.
