Run On

Words & Music:
Arranged by Elvis PresleyWell you may run on for a long time
Run on for a long time,
Run on for a long time
Let me tell you God almighty gonna cut you down
Go tell that long tongued liar, oh well well
Go tell that midnight rider, oh well well
Tell the gambler, rambler, back-biter
Tell them God almighty gonna cut them down
Stop God almighty let me tell you the news
My head's been wet with the midnight dews
Coming down on my bended knees
Talking to the man from Galilee
My God spoke and he spoke so sweet
I thought I heard the shuffle of angel's feet
He put one hand upon my head
Great God almighty let me tell you what he said
Go tell that long tongued liar, oh well well
Go tell that midnight rider, oh well well
Tell the gambler, rambler, back-biter
Tell them God almighty gonna cut them down
Run on for a long time,
Run on for a long time,
Let me tell you God almighty gonna cut you down
You may throw your rock and hide your hand
Working in the dark against your fellow man
As sure as God made the day and the night
What you do in the dark will be brought to the light
You may run and hide, slip and slide
Trying to take the mote from your neighbour's eyes
As sure as God made the rich and poor
You gonna reap just what you sow
Run on for a long time,
Run on for a long time
Let me tell you God almighty gonna cut you down
Go tell that long tongued liar, oh well well
Go tell that midnight rider, oh well well
Tell the gambler, rambler, back-biter
Tell them God almighty gonna cut them down
Some people go to church just to sit in the fire
Trying to make a date with the neighbour's wife
Brother let me tell you as sure as you're born
You better leave that woman alone
Because one of these days mark my word
You think that brother is going to work
And you'll sneak up and knock on that door
That's all brother you'll knock no more
Run on for a long time,
Run on for a long time
Let me tell you God almighty gonna cut you down
Go tell that long tongued liar, oh well well
Go tell that midnight rider, oh well well
Tell the gambler, rambler, back-biter
Tell them God almighty gonna cut them down Recorded:

How Great Thou ArtReactions
I adore fast gospel songs like this. Also check out earlier versions off the song(like The Coleman Brothers)
Rightfully found its way on to the Artist Of The Century release as it is a classic piece of gospel that suits the mood, emotion, and voice of Elvis perfectly. Reminds me of the fabulous I John, in feel from the He Touched Me album.
Great performance from a Great album ! I love this album more so than the "His Hand in mine- gospel album".
I hate rap but I love this song. ELVIS did rap before it was rap and he can sing to.
The second best song on this great album in my opinion. The best is "Somebody bigger than...." 4 1/2 stars.
A great album but much of it is bogged down with the heavy hand of Jarvis and over produced. I dont like it as much now as I did in 1966 when it was a relief from the dreadful soundtracks. But this song has remained a favorite. Stand out cut on this LP.
One of the many highlights of the "How Great Thou Art" LP. Elvis lets loose on this uptempo gospel and gives a great performance. He is a little hard to understand in parts, but the song's message still comes through loud and clear. 4 1/2 stars.
My least favorite song on the HGTA album.
THE best song on the HGTA album.
Now after almost 22 years since I first heard this I understand what he's singing.
One of the best songs of the album.
