Never Ending

Rating:
4.6 / 5

Words & Music: Buddy Kaye Phil Springer

Walk down to the beach at sunset
Look as far as you can see
You will find that endless ocean
And that's how my love will always be

I bring you never ending, never ending
never ending, never ending
never ending, never ending love

Look up at the sky at midnight
Gaze up on the starlit view
Just as heaven has no boundaries
Neither does my love for you

I bring you never ending, never ending
never ending, never ending
never ending, never ending love
Never ending love
Never ending love
Never ending love
Never ending love

I remember buying the single when it came out in 1964, again one of the many Elvis tracks that stand out and are tucked away on the B side or became album fillers. "Walk down to the beach at sunset" Strange! but I always think of Blackpool sands and Pamela when I here this! That was in 1964 too

A soft ballad with almost a Johnny Mathis type feel to it. Recorded at the excellent Nashville sessions in May of 1963 that would have produced one of his best studio LP's if RCA had released the 12 masters together. Even if they had released it in 1964 without "Love Me Tonight" and "Slowly But Surely" (included on the "Fun In Acapulco" LP as bonus songs), it would have been infinitely better than the "Kissin Cousins" LP. They could have substituted "Memphis, Tennessee" and "It Hurts Me" for the two songs that had been used. Released an extended play from "Kissin' Cousins" with the title song sung over the credits, "There's Gold In The Mountains", "Tender Feeling", "Once Is Enough" and "Catchin' On Fast" and then would have made "Smokey Mountain Boy", "One Boy, Two Little Girls" and "Barefoot Ballad" unreleased (the way it should have been!). A "Viva Las Vegas" LP could have been released in the late Spring and they could have included the song "Anyone" as a bonus song.

This song was to good to be hidden away. So underrated as far as fans are concerned and completely unknown to casual listeners. A beautiful song which reminds me of long summer nights so long ago and walks hand in hand by the sea. Could have been Blackpool even! In my top ten Elvis songs of all time.

Loved it from the day I bought it. Played it ten times more than the A side which was a big hit here in Denmark. No one could sing this kind of ballad like Elvis.

I remember buying the single and I much preferred 'Never Ending'. Even after all these years I would never skip it. A real gem, not hidden by me. 5 stars.

The A side was very well known already to me so this B side was a new song for me and as such I played it more often as far as this single goes. But better than the A side? No way. Such a Night may be in the top 5 of Elvis recordings. This was nice because it was a good ballad and was new at the time. Should have been paired with another 1963 song as a follow up to Devil In Disguise. Would have been nice to have 2 non-soundtrack singles in a row in 1963

Overlooked gem. Performed beautifully and perfectly by Elvis and the backup singers and band.Should have been huge on the charts. It would be nice to have this on a new "Love song CD collection" for the general public to discover.

This was a good song and I remember it getting as much airplay as Such A Night that summer of 64 which probably prevented either side from making the top 10. Years later it was included as a bonus song on a dreaded soundtrack which sealed its fate as being totally mishandled.

"Such a Night" should have been released earlier than 1964 as a single. Since, the song, first appeared on the amazing, "Elvis is back album" in 1960. And, the song "Never Ending" should have been a "A side" single. (I believe it was a "B" side) And, why "Never Ending" didn't chart higher, who knows? It's a real good song. It's quite possible that, the "English invasion" of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, etc, at that time, were the rage and ruling the charts, and this song got lost in the radio playlists.

The beauty of Elvis' voice could describe a scene and make you envision it with crystal clear perfection. It brings tears to my eyes when think of it.

Love this song though I've always felt there was a little too much echo on it. A great B side to an A side that was already four years old so it was never really going to be taken too seriously by the record buying public in 1964. Never Ending was the sort of song Cliff Richard was having hits with at this time and whilst it may not have been right as an A side for the King it would have probably been a big hit for Cliff.

The is such a beautiful, underrated and overlooked ballad and it's easily one of my most favorite Elvis songs from the 1960's. This ballad should definitely be way better known than it actually is.

Beautiful ballad with that Elvis Latino touch, a genre in which he really excelled without parallel.

One of the 100 Elvis songs that are in my top 10 LOL. The first 10 sec. in it just draws you into it and it is so vived that you almost can taste the sand. This one together with Sand castles, Tender Feeling, This is my Heaven, So Close,Yet so far (From Paradise), Any Day Now, Indescribable Blue, It Hurts Me, I´ll Remember You, Anything That´s Part of You, Put The Blame on Me, Witchcraft and Please Don´t Stop Loving Me, would be a knockout album and a great eye opener for the general public who thinks that E only had the hits we hear on the radio.

The way Elvis sings this perfect little ballad is really special. I think someone is playing the low E-string on his guitar as a electric bass, because I can hear the double bass played by Bob Moore, who I believe never played the electric bass. The Complete Recording Sessions doesn't name a second bass player, so it must be a guitar player, imitating the bass. Also on the next recorded song, What now, what next, where to, the guitar-sounding-like-a-bass sound is used. Joe Babcock sings backing vocals as part of The Jordanaires on this session.

Beautifully sung romantic ballad. If Elvis had never recorded anything but these kinds of ballads, he still would have been a legend.

This is a great song, kinda has a "Platters" feel to it. It has a vibe or feel to it that seems similar to some early Motown ballads...

This song is sublime and only one thing I can find to fault, it’s not long enough. I wish it was never ending. 5 stars no question.

I've really liked this song ever since I first heard it as the flip of "Such A Night" back in the '60s. Elvis does a fine job.

Elvis' voice during those early 60's was great! Maybe the best of all the voices he was able to offer. Never Ending has always been a fav of mine. Easily 5 stars!
