My Wish Came True

Rating:
3.9 / 5

Words & Music: Ivory Joe Hunter

My wish came true
When I met you
I've searched and searched
My whole life through

There's just one thing
Dear before we start
Don't say you care
Then break my heart

When you speak of love
Please be sincere
For if you play with love
It can bring tears my dear

My wish came true
To my surprise
When you stood there before my eyes

And when my heart
Started beating fast
T'was then I knew
I found true love at last

One of my favorite Elvis ballads of the 50's, but maybe my all-time least favorite arrangement. I know Elvis liked a lot of voices, but it just kills this song beyound repair. You cant even hear him at the end. Shame because its a great tune.

A song I like but another that gets overlooked and practically forgotten nowadays. A very unusual recording.

Was this really Elvis? Of course it was and a great orginal recording too. Here in N. Ireland back in the 80's there was a DJ who had a spot on his radio show were you were asked to submit a recording and the listeners had to phone in the correct artists name. Well, I requested 'My Wish Came True', and NO ONE guessed it was indeed Elvis. I think this shows that the song is not well known outside of Elvis fans and also how different Elvis's recording style in singing it. Off to play it now.

Elvis recorded Joe Hunter's I need You So as well as this great song which ended up on the flip side of a Big Hunk O'Love. An odd sort of recording which has been long forgotten it seems and completely overshadowed by it's A side.

The outstanding flipside to the legendary "A Big Hunk O' Love" in 1959. A great ballad that was recorded in 1957 and shows that even then, Elvis was the best ballad singer in the music business. A unique recording that does seem to be overlooked today, it was actually a good sized hit in '59 hitting #12 on the Hot 100. There are a lot of voices, but I can hear Elvis all the way through and this one is a five star track all the way.

I love this song, it is perfectly suited for Elvis. Ivory Joe had some great tunes and Elvis prob loved all his stuff. There is a great vocal underneath all those voices, yes you can hear it, but I would love to hear it stripped off. One of his best ballads ever!

A Big Hunk 'O Love was the side I bought it for still love it today & it's sister song Burning Love "Wish" is a good "b" side that never gets played on radio,so short sighted by the gold stations, they haven't got a clue.

A beautiful song but I think the backing vocals are way over the top...however, it is so beautiful it still warrants at least 4 stars.

Easily one of my least listened to Elvis tunes of not only the 50's but of all time. For some reason I just never liked this song. I almost always skip this one when it comes on. I can't put my finger on why I don't really like it, but it's just one of the few Elvis songs, like "And the Grass Won't Pay No Mind", that I only listen to occasionally. I much prefer the overlooked 50's ballad (and fellow Ivory Joe Hunter tune) "I Need You So."

My goodness what a horrible arrangement with all these voices. No wonder it took two years to find some place for it on the B-side of a single but could easily ended up on Elvis for Everyone.

Ivory Joe Hunter was a guest at Graceland, when he let Elvis hear this song. Elvis loved it. I do too. There is a strange album out called Hits im Doppelpack, vol. 2, where an English sung song is countered by an German version. The German version off this song is called Mein Wunsch wird wahr and is sung by Wolfgang Graf. He does a good job at mimicking Elvis way of singing in German.

Not one of my favourites from the 50's and I dont include it on my playlists, but then again. I am listening to it now and it is a quality performance. Probably for me it suffered being the 'B' side of ' A Big Hunk of Love' however it is still worth 3 1/2 stars.

When I purchased this on 45RPM back in 1959 it was for the A-Side, "A Big Hunk of Love"; through the passing of time, I have come to really like this song even though the back-up singers overshadow Elvis' voice at times... Great song; funny how I appreciate his 1950's ballads more so with the passing of time.

I like this song with Millie Kirkham's voice highlighted. Elvis mentions this song in 1977 (on the "Unchained Melody" FTD cd).

Everything elvis has done sounds dated, how could it not - normally that's no problem for me, but on this one, it is too much "old school" to this ears. It's not terrible sung or anything, but the whole arrangement and the song itself seem so incredibly schmaltzy, like something elvis grandparents would have listen to. The a-side is - of course -great, this song is tolerable, but nothing more. 2 stars.

I've always liked it. But I've never loved it. It's well sung and I don't have a problem with the production values. Love Millie's voice. Old school is good. I was old school even when I was in school. 3 stars.

I find this song so harrowing and haunting. I love it. So different than any love song he ever did. Almost creepy but in a great way.

I like it but I do not love it. With few exceptions (e.g. "Don't") his 50's ballads pale in comparison to what he did when he returned from the army. This song could have been a great addition to say "Something For Everybody" if it were recorded in 1961. His version from '57 is good but not great. 3 1/2 stars

Elvis repeatedy did Big Hunk 'O Love in his live concerts, what a shame he ignored the B side of the single. and didn#t sing this in his concert years. With a careful arrangement, this could have been a teriffic live number and a perfect slow down song after BHOL . I never skip this song, it's way too good
