My Happiness

Rating:
3.8 / 5

Words & Music: Betty Peterson Borney Bergantine

Evening shadows make me blue
When each weary day is through
How I long to be with you
My happiness

Every day I reminesce
Dreaming of your tender kiss
Always thinking how I miss
My happiness

A million years it seems
Have gone by since we shared our dreams
But I'll hold you again
There'll be no blue memories then

Whether skies are grey or blue
Any place on earth will do
Just as long as I'm with you
My happiness

A million years it seems
Have gone by since we shared our dreams
But I'll hold you again
There'll be no blue memories then

Whether skies are grey or blue
Any place on earth will do
Just as long as I'm with you
My happiness

Not good...Elvis was'nt a good ballad singer at this time. Give him 5 to 6 years later it would be a different story.

Here we witness the King in a bud. As a youngster he wanted to sing, but had not yet discovered his unique style. Heavily influenced by the music he was used to listen to he puts this in the grooves. I think we can hear his fragile initial step and his shy as well as strong determination to become a singer. And what a difference with the young man who stood on stage just shortly after that! Just three years later he recorded professionaly Love Me Tender and Blue Moon.

Great that this recording surfaced later given its historical significance. Reportedly, Elvis was urged by his friend Edwin Leek Jr to make an acetate at the Memphis Recording Service and that is where he left the recording never asking back for it again. Elvis was not ready for ballads in 1953, but three stars nevertheless.

This song is sung with so much passion and such a feeling, that it's unbelievable this came from an 18 year old boy. I just love it. The way Elvis sings "A million years it seems Have gone by since we shared our dreams But I'll hold you again There'll be no blue memories then..." Is stronger in feelings then the whole ’56 “Love me Tender. Just makes you fall in love. I love Elvis and his guitar. That’s heaven! That's more than enough for me! A pure and raw diamond.

Just his voice and a guitar. Lovely!

In retrospect this performance was charming and pure, and heralded the beginning of something that would turn the music industry upside down. Taken as an isolated performance by an unknown with no epic story to follow, the voice and performance has severe limitations, but that still does not stop me enjoying the occasional listen.

Elvis' first recording is very interesting and it shows glimpses of that amazing voice in which we become accustomed. Especially on the choruses you can hear the raw talent he had while his voice sounds a little thinner on the verses. Not a track I want to listen to a lot, but it is nice to have along with other early efforts such as "Harbor Lights", "I'll Never Stand in Your Way" and "That's When Your Heartaches Begin"

I've always loved Elvis' recording of this beautiful ballad. This long lost Elvis recording was a truly great find too. My favorite Elvis era will definitely always be the 1950's.

I give this 5 stars, 'cause it sounds better than any of the professional recordings I heard of this song done by others like Jim Reeves, Ella Fitzgerald or Andy Williams. Elvis sounds so real and moving, which all the other versions lack. I wish he had re-recorded this track in 1957.

A historic recording raw with a basic guitar strum.Though to me it is Elvis affirming more to himself than anyone else that he does have the voice and talent to make it one day.

Shows the raw emotion and talent he had at the age of 18. Yes its not perfect or completely refined but you can tell he had something great.
