Milky White Way
Words & Music:
Yes I’m gonna walk on the milky white way
Oh Lord some of these days
I'm gonna walk that milky white way
Some of these days well well well well
I'm gonna walk up and take my stand
Gonna join that Christian band
I'm gonna walk on that milky white way
Oh Lord, some of these days
I'm gonna tell my mother howdy, howdy,
Howdy when I get home
Yes, I’m gonna tell my mother howdy,
When I get home well well well well
I'm gonna shake my mother's hand
I will shake her hands that day
That's when we walk on the milky white way
On some of these days
I'm gonna meet god the father and god the son
Yes, I’m gonna meet god the father and god the son
Well well well well
I'm gonna sit down and tell Him my troubles
About the world that I just came from
That's when we walk on the milky white way
Oh Lord, on some of these days

One of my favorites from the His Hand In Mine sessions. I think it's one of the best versions of the song . Elvis gives a very sincere and heartfelt reading , which is mot surprising when you listen to the lyrics and realize that his mother died not that long before the session.
Elvis does a great version of a wonderful song. I've heard other versions, among them Little Richard, and they all sound great, still our man has the best one.
Totally, 101% outstanding song; this song and "I'm Gonna Walk Them Golden Stairs" are 2 of my favorite gospel tunes by Elvis. To be honest, most of his gospel singing is top notch! There's not too many clunkers when it comes to Elvis and his gospel singing.
Listen to this and Jailhouse Rock after on another really make you wonder if it is the same person singing, it's almost super human. 5 stars for both song and album.
Top class performance from Elvis, a really good song too.Elvis voice at this time was outstanding.
Absolute wonderful. 5 stars for this song and the album.
This song, along with 'Swing down, sweet chariot' are my favorites gospel songs. TCB
Absolutely fantastic gospel performance laid back, smooth, with soul and charm. It doesn't get a lot better than this, and is a real classic in the Elvis portfolio.
This is such a beautiful song and Elvis easily has the very best rendition of it. The best gospel music will definitely always be Elvis' gospel music. No one will ever be able to sing gospel songs as well as Elvis sang them.
This is a five star song from a five star album. Period.
This is what Elvis is all about: the most fantastic performer in music history, being in the Rock, pop, country, blues or gospel field. Fantastic song from an outstanding LP in gospel music. Have to love it.
Wonderful song, with an outstanding vocal. As a teenager I was actually a little disappointed upon firdt hearing the HHIM album. If only I had a time machine I'd go back and slap that teenager in the face and tell him he was an idiot. Just goes to show that so much timeless music can evolve with listening into a firm favourite. On a similar note a lot of stuff I liked instantly rarely gets a listen anymore. It just didn't have the depths to it that songs like Milky White Way and the whole album have. LOve it.
One of his best gospel tunes, my fave on this LP
Nothing short of heaven sent. TCB
A top-notch gospel track from the 1960 LP "His Hand In Mine" The song is sung impeccably by Elvis and of course the Jordanaires are perfect as always. If you are not religious or a big gospel / sacred music fan, you will still enjoy this one. If you are a religious person, this song and the way it is performed will touch you. 5 (out of 5) stars all the way.
Tender and inspirational, Elvis sounds absolutely angelic in these recordings. Awesome.
I'm not religous by any means, but this LP His Hand In Mine is EAPs finest, better than How Great thou Art,although it's ok,and certaintly better than He Touched Me (apart from about 3 or 4 track's.What was he thinking of with He Is My Everything,to the tune of There Goes My Everthing,& A Thing Called Love, horrible.HHIM certainly has the very best cover with Elvis at the piano.
Elvis gospel is the best music he ever sang, nobody could sing gospel quite like he did(and he did win 3 grammy awards for his "sacred performances")the recent 2CD RCA/FTD deluxe edition of the 1960 gospel album "his hand in mine" was mind blowingly good and the sound of each song was vastly improved and the unreleased studio outtakes were a real treat to hear!..there was even a good outtake of 'millky white way' too, making this song more enjoyable.(takes 1,2,3 on disc 1 and takes 4,5,6 on disc 2.)I just hope and pray that RCA/FTD decide to release the other gospel albums Elvis recorded?(how great thou art and he touched me.)
it fits perfectly with Presley's voice. hearing this, one understands why he wished to be part of a gospel group. there have been several attempts to sing it by myself in the last years...;-)
I second those emotions already stated here. Wonderful song, vocal performance and a wonderful album overall. Including Crying In The Chapel.
I like this song a whole lot... but, to me, the best version is Take 3 (first heard on Platinum). The master take is a little too fast. Take 3 is smooth.
Nice gospel song. Another great vocal performance from that brilliant year, where Elvis was in his prime. I have always enjoyed this one
I like gospel music a lot and this is my one favourite song on HHIM next to Working On a Building. Well, though it's hard to make a choice indeed. This record is full with outstanding songs as well as performances.
Great recording and a great album from Elvis. 1960 had Elvis back from the army doin' everything, Films, Live shows, Guesting on Tv, making great pop albums and topping the charts both in the Us & Uk. And to cut these great tracks for the His Hand In Mine LP just shows the how great he was. If i could go back in time to just one year it would be to 1960 to re-live all of this again.
Not only is this a royal vocal performance but also some fab rhythm playing by our man. Just listen to those typical lics.
Elvis' voice was extraordinary around the time he made this album and this song is just one of the memorable songs.
Good song, great vocal with Elvis in perfect voice. Even if you dont dig gospel music, this is easy to like.
