Words & Music:
We couldn't make believe
lala la make believe
But your love dear
Lala could pretending couldn't you
Couldn't I, couldn't we
Make believe our lips are blended
In a special kiss
For to love me miles away
Make believe I love you
For to tell my true, I do

Elvis should have recorded a proper studio version of this song instead. Elvis' home recorded performance of it is absolutely dreadful and a complete waste of time.
Elvis is in great voice, but the song lacks...everything. He could play the piano though.
Make Believe...what? What about a Las Vegas one liner as song of the day next time? ;-)
Awful, plain awful! If possible I wouldn´t give it one star. There probably was a reason why our man went to recording studios, after having practised at home, when he wanted to record MASTERS for his fans to hear.
I don't get it. Most of the comments about this song are either I don't know about it or they are generally negative. I myself have never heard of this . So what I don't get is, it still gets 3 stars. This just proves that the typical Elvis fan (at least on this site) thinks everything he sang deserves 3 stars or more no matter how bad the song or its interpertation.
This is not even an "official recording"!! Its Elvis, singing casually, at home, into a tape recorder!!And even though, its a fun listen ... it should have stayed Private..
The lyrics quoted are nowhere near what Elvis sings, even in his 'part version' ! The frustrating thing is the poor quality of the recording, even for a home recording. The lack of technical know-how amongst those surrounding Elvis was amazing. And it's such a shame, as this shows a hitherto unknown side of Elvis. Together with "If I Loved You", we can see what Elvis could have done with an album of show tunes. The female voice is beautiful (Nancy Sharpe, I believe, a wardrobe girl working on Flaming Star). Those dismissing this are somewhat narrow minded, although, to be fair, it's all a matter of taste.
I've never heard of this. Is this one of those home recordings? Ridiculous choice for Song of the Day.
this song and the rest of them on this CD was a waste of $30>>>but BMG knows the Elvis fans will buy it all and I regretfully did. Although Elvis' voice sounds great on these recordings the quality is unlistenable.I didnt even realize "Make believe " was on there until i read this write-up
It's a terrible hacked up version of the original song "Only Make Believe" written by Oscar Hammerstein years ago for one of the Rogers & Hammerstein musicals of that era. Sinatra, Streisand & many others have recorded it in its original version. Elvis should have done the same.
The song is on the CD "The home recording". It shows diversity in style. The lady who sings with Elvis on that one has a beautiful voice...
The song has been recorded by Sinatra and Streisand, and many more. Elvis never got around to recording it in the studio which is probably a good thing. The best version I have heard is the Monty Python one. where Graham Chapman? sung it while smashing his head at the same time with two bricks.
This was never meant for release and it shows!
