I could wander the byway, rewander too
But it wouldn't be the same without you
Those familiair old places would just make me blue
'Cause it wouldn't be the same without you

I wasted my love on a careless romance
But I'd do it again, if I had the chance
I could start my life over with somebody new
But it wouldn't be the same without you

I enjoy this 1954 demo recording immensely and I've never skipped it. This long lost demo recording was a truly great find and a welcome addition to Elvis' music catalog. My favorite era of Elvis' career will definitely always be the 1950's because I love all of his music from the 1950's and also because he changed the world of music forever during the 1950's. I rate this demo recorded performance 5 Stars.

THis pre-stardom recording emphasizes that shyness of the young Elvis. A youngster recording such a beautiful balad must have been promissing to professional ears. Maybe they expexted his voice to develop to the one we all know as unique and a mentality to express the right sentiment fitting the lyrics. Anyway, the latter is definitely present and that makes this recording a worthwhile addition to my collection, and to that extend also to my regular playlist.

The second demo recording session of his career presents a less than perfect record in quality and performance. It shows a youthful Elvis without the vocal prowess for ballads in early 1954, however it does have a certain charm and I find that I quite enjoy it. - 3 stars.
