In the Garden

Rating:
4.4 / 5

Words & Music: Charles Austin Miles

I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The song of God discloses

And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am his own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known

He speaks and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing

And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am his own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known

A quite religious song. It goes without saying, Elvis sings this beautifully.

What an absolutely wonderful performance, so beautifully sung with deep feeling and emotion. This religious offering strikes my very soul -5 stars.

This is a song that blows my mind, try to play this one on right after Jailhouse Rock for a non Elvis fan, and see if you can convince them that this is the same person singing !! 5 stars off course .

There is not one bad song or performance on either His Hand In Mine or How Great Thou Art. In The Garden is a beautiful song and Elvis' performance is fantastic. I will say His Hand In Mine is the better album from a sonic standpoint. No one recorded Elvis better than Bill Porter. Felton and his hand picked engineer not so much.

Elvis sings this one with conviction and sincerity and makes it one of the many highlights of the "How Great Thou Art" LP. Elvis is feeling every word as he sings this song and the listener feels them too. 5 stars for the track and 5 stars for the LP. I always preferred this LP to "His Hand In Mine" and "He Touched Me, but picking between them is like picking the prettiest lady in a beauty contest. They are all fantastic.

His Hand In Mine and How Great Thou Art are two of Elvis' most remarkable and outstanding albums. If memory serves me right, Elvis wantet How Great Thou Art to be more "choir" like. The way gospel music sounded inside the church. Thus the divertion in sound compared to His Hand In Mine. I think the opening track somehow gives the direction straight away. Another thing is that Elvis' 1966 voice was much deeper than 6 years before. I think both albums stand their ground individually. And yes, it is a beautiful delivery by Elvis on this song!

This is such a beautiful song and Elvis sang it with deep passion and emotion. Elvis' rendition of it should definitely be far better known than it actually is. It's my fourth most favorite gospel song that Elvis ever recorded. No one will ever be able to sing gospel songs as well as Elvis sang them.

5-Star Rating. I only wish there would have been outtakes of this song. Appears this song was done in one take. The instrumentation sort of detracts from this tune to my ears, biut I still give it 5-stars.
