I'm Gonna Walk Dem Golden Stairs

Rating:
4.3 / 5

Words & Music: Cully Holt

I’m gonna walk, walk dem golden stairs
'Cause I know my Jesus answers all my prayers
Well, well I know when he calls me to my home on high
I'll walk dem golden stairs when I die, when I die

Oh lord you know I can hardly wait
To reach that suite by and by by by
And now I see those per, per, pearly gate
I'll walk dem golden stairs when I die, when I die
Well, well, well
I’m gonna walk, walk dem golden stairs
'Cause I know my Jesus answers all my prayers
Well, well I know when he calls me to my home on high
I'll walk dem golden stairs when I die, when I die

When Jesus says to me well done
And all my cares are laid by
I'll lay down my soul, my battles are won
I'll walk dem golden stairs when I die when I die

Well, well, well
I’m gonna walk, walk dem golden stairs
'Cause I know my Jesus answers all my prayers
Well, well I know when he calls me to my home on high
I'll walk dem golden stairs when I die, when I die

Well, well
I’m gonna walk, walk dem golden stairs
'Cause I know my Jesus answers all my prayers
Well, well I know when he calls me to my home on high
I'll walk dem golden stairs when I die, when I die

Great rolling song (not quite rocking). But why Dem, instead off Them? One of the better songs of His hand in mine.

Of course, Them wouldn't make sense. It should be The, but that doesn't sing so fluently.

This is such a spectacular and catchy song and Elvis easily has the very best rendition of it. The best gospel music will definitely always be Elvis' gospel music. No one will ever be able to sing gospel songs as well as Elvis sang them.

Written by Cully Holt , who I think was a member of the band The Foggy River Boys who later became the Jordanaires. Could hand clapping gospel song from a classic album

Inspired top notch gospel singing that reflected his youth and had folks swaying in the aisles. I would imagine 'dem' is used as that was how the original exponents of this music pronounced 'them'. -5 stars

Simply put, no one and I mean NO ONE could sing gospel music like Elvis. I still find it amazing and I think it says a lot about the man that at the height of his popularity (1957, 1960 and 1972), that Elvis took time to give us three great sacred/gospel records (Peace In The Valley, His Hand In Mine and He Touched Me). Of course "How Great Thou Art" came during a sales slump, but it is great as well. 5 stars for the track, 5 stars for HHIM, PIV, HGTA and 4.5 stars for HTM.

For grammar's sake it would be THOSE golden stairs. But we are talking colloquial southern black language here.

The song is sung well. But, its' not one of my favorites. I was a small baby, when I heard my Mother play this song, on her stereo, and its then, when I found out what the defination of the word "die" was, and I cried for days !

Wonderful, simply wonderful. It's swinging, there is no false melodramatic, there are no mannerisms. It's a perfect production, elvis is in his prime as a vocalist, sounding like his voice is detached from the earth... sheer beauty, pure freedom. 5 stars, what else?

5-stars, from his best gospel album "His Hand in Mine" released in 1960.

Not my favourite song from the album but even the worse is 5 stars. Every track from this album is pure masterpiece. His vocals are at his very best. Elvis in his prime, singing gospel and sharing his faith.
