Words & Music: Charlie Rich

Well it's so very hard to have
To leave the one you love
And you get more lonely
With each passing day
It's so lonely just sitting
And dreaming of
That girl thousand miles away

Yes, it's still lonely having
Just her picture here with me
And I know I just can't stand it anymore
I'm gonna leave right now
and go back where I ought to be
Goin' home to the girl that I adore

Well it's so very hard to have
To leave the one you love
And you get more lonely
With each passing day
It's so lonely just sitting
And dreaming of
That girl thousand miles away

Well, every time I hear
her sweet voice on the telephone
Then I know I just can't stand it another day
I'm gonna call right back
And tell her that I'm coming home and stay
Call her back and say I’m comin' home and stay
Call her back and say I’m comin' home and stay

When i first heard the Something for Everybody album(back in 76' i was 12) my two favorites were "there's always me" and this song.Love the piano and guitar break.

Strong rocking track that led off side two (the rhythmic side) of the LP "Something For Everybody". Elvis sings it with gusto and even his voice barely cracking on the the line "That girl a thousand miles away" doesn't distract from a solid track. Written by the "Silver Fox", Charlie Rich, who would later go on to '70's fame as a country singing star. 4 stars.

I like it, even if the piano solo always kind of ruined the song for me. And it´s not the first time that happens on this album, I have the same feelings about the piano solo that appears in "Judy". But this is a good song. Just imagine if Elvis did these kind of songs in the mid sixties!

Oh Yes! This is my Elvis from the 60's. And this is the path I wish he would chose, instead of being a crooner. I always ear this song as a group song, not as a solo artist song, because Elvis vocals are only a part of its wonder. Love this song, all outtakes we have, the immortal piano and guitar solos from Floyd Cramer and Hank Garland (Elvis best guitar player ever) and the final drum crescendo with Elvis voice. LOVE IT. It's only Rock'n'Roll... but I like it, yes I do.

Superb track from, perhaps, Elvis's classiest album.

Great Charlie Rich song from the second strong studio album of the early 60's. Great rocking piano and interesting slightly subdued, yet effective, vocal from Elvis. Yes, this was the path he should have followed. Charlie Rich had some great rocking tunes. I wish he would have done more of them as it suited his style perfectly.

A good rolling beat and a rocking piano, but Elvis' vocals seem tame to what they were pre army. A good album too.

Good song, one of the best from that album.

One of the best post army rockers and along with I Want You With Me the stand out song from the Something For Everybody album.

I'm listening to take 3, which could've been released at the time, although the take Elvis choose, is less more polished. A perfect little rock song.

This is such a marvelous, catchy, electrifying, groovy and fun uptempo song and it should definitely be much better known than it actually is. I've never skipped it. Elvis' rendition of it is a masterpiece. It's unfortunate that it wasn't a hit for Elvis. This is easily one of my most favorite songs that Elvis recorded during the 1960's. Five stars from me.

Nice little rocker that highlights Elvis' studio musicians! It was included on the 1986 album/cd, "Return of The Rocker".

I have always loved this song since the first time I heard the album. Could easily have been a single imo!

5-stars easily. I came across this album "Something For Everybody" by accident back in 1961 and purchased it immediately. If one has the FTD CD's you get to hear this song in different outtakes and they're all excellent; as a matter of fact I rather like the entire album with the exception of "I Want You With Me" (which to me was a cop-out). This song is outstanding.

Catchy and full of energy. Maybe not as edgie as it may have sounded one year earlier, but it's a top notch recording. The best fast song on an underrated lp. 5 stars.

Not a song I go to but not one I skip. I like it and the FTD Something for everybody sessions gave me a new interest in it. A good solid rocker and excellent vocals (as always) by our boy.
