If the Lord Wasn't Walking by my Side

Words & Music:
Henry SlaughterI don't know just what I’d do
If the Lord wasn't walking by my side
When I was drifting (when I was drifting on the sea of a despair)
and I was wandering (I was wandering if Jehovah's up there)
When Jesus found me,(Jesus found me in my sinful life)
he heard me praying (he heard me praying on my knees at night)
Now I’m singing (Now I'm singing this happy song)
because I’m happy (because I'm happy as I go along)
And I don't know (I don't know) just what I’d do
If the Lord wasn't walking by my side
What would I do, (What would I do when a tear fills my eyes)
what would I do (What would I do when it's my time to die)
Well I’d be lonely, discouraged
Burdened on the way
If the Lord wasn't walking by my side every day
I’d be so friendless (I'd be friendless all alone and blue)
and I'd be helpless (I'd be helpless, wouldn't know what to do)
And I don't know (I don't know) just what I’d do
If the Lord wasn't walking by my side
(What would I do) What would I do when the tears fill my eyes
(What would I do) What would I do when it's my time to die
(I'd be lonely, discouraged, burdened on the way)
If the Lord wasn't walking by my side every day
I’d be so friendless, (I'd be friendless all alone and blue)
I'd be so helpless (I'd be helpless, wouldn't know what to do)
And I don't know (I don't know) just what I’d do
If the Lord wasn't walking by my side every day
If the Lord (wasn't walking) wasn't walking by my side

I'm listening to take 4, which has the organ by Henry Slaughter way up front. Great performance throughout.
A tremendous gospel number that exudes a combination of soul, vitality and happiness. Great all round arrangement with the backing singers adding to the attraction and punch of a great performance - easily 5 stars
Elvis at his best. It really shows how much he love gospel music. Have you ever wonder the top rock and roll artist of all time singing about God and Jesus? Great song from a Grammy award wining album.
There are no dud tracks on this album just gems, and this is one of them.
Another outstanding track from the much celebrated How Great Thou Art album.
My favourite gospel song by Elvis (or anyone else for that matter). I love all of Elvis' gospel songs but this one is so uplifting. Great performance.
My favorite of the uptempo tracks on "How Great Thou Art."
A short, fast, but outstanding gospel track from the 1967 LP "How Great Thou Art". Elvis shares this one with the Jordanaires (possibly the Imperials too as both groups were present at these sessions) as Elvis sings a line and then they sing a line. The year, 1967, might not have been a great commercial year for Elvis, but with the release of this album and the great single "Indescribably Blue" the year got off to a great start as far as quality. The LP did quite well on the LP chart in the US making it up to #18 and this was by far the best performance of any one of his three albums released that year.
Just one of the great recordings for the wonderful album 'How Great Thou Art'.
remember the moment I bought How Great Thou Art and first heard this song. it blew me away.
