If I'm a Fool (For Loving You)

Rating:
4.1 / 5

Words & Music: Stanley Kesler

If I'm a fool for loving you then that's just what I want to be
They're saying I am just your clown and any fool could see
That you're just having fun and you're not in love with me
The things they're saying may be true, but there's something they can't see
If I'm a fool for loving you then that's just what I want to be

If I'm a dreamer, let me dream. If I'm your clown I'll steal the show
If things are not the way they seem, please don't ever let me know
If I am blind it's because I just don't want to see
If I'm a fool for loving you then that's just what I want to be

If I'm a dreamer, let me dream. If I'm your clown I'll steal the show
If things are not the way they seem, please don't ever let me know
If I am blind it's because I just don't want to see
If I'm a fool for loving you then that's just what I want to be
If I'm a fool for loving you then that's just what I want to be
If I'm a fool for loving you

I like it but only because Elvis is so into it. An otherwise non-exciting song made pleasurable because Elvis sang the hell out of it as he did when he was at Chip's studio.

No doubt about it, the Memphis sessions, in 1969, produced some of Elvis Presley's best music. Chips, and the studio, musicians and the backup singers, worked extremely well with Elvis, and the results were amazing ! Elvis was singing at his best. Such great recordings ! As pointed out, because Elvis sings this song, with such feeling, he pulls you in, and the hook is quite good, too.

Elvis was certainly singing at his best in the winter of 69. This song, had it been cut in 1973 or so, would have boring. Just goes to show you what a motivated Elvis could do with standard material. Good production by Chipa also.

I quite like the melody and sentiments of this song but it's an awkward one to sing so Elvis does really well to make it into the little cracker that it it. Stan Kesler never saw Elvis wrong and the opposite is also true. 4 stars.

a really good country number, pity it was relagated to a budget album. Albeit a good one.

A great song for me some 32 years back. I was 15 and in love with a girl. It never worked out the way it should, but the song helped a desperate teenager to cope with it. Not that she didn't love me. As her mother was diagnosed breast cancer at the same time, she just wasn't prepared to follow her heart and go ahead with me. She later wrote me a letter explaining it all. Yeah, kind of a sentimental story. But she meant a lot to me, still does as an old friend, and the song takes me back to those days anytime I give it a spin. By the way I am married to a wonderful lady and the other lady came to visit us while we worked in Ecuador for a few years. Merry Christmas to ya'll. Peter

When this gem is considered one of the leftovers from a recording session, you know the recording session was fantastic. Well-written and sung superbly by Elvis, this song is a 4 1/2 star track.

It sounds like Elvis bangs his acoustic once in a while. An ok song done well by the man.

Elvis pulls an average, but well recorded song up by its bootstraps, and gives us something to cherish and enjoy. He imparts that soulful warm delivery that keeps the listener engaged to the end of the performance. - 4 stars

Elvis lifts an average song up out of mediocrity. Committed performance. Wonderful vocal. 4 stars.
