If I get home on Christmas day
I won't need soft words to say
I'll miss you and I can stay a while
You'll see it in my eyes and when I smile

If I get home before midnight
While you're still sleeping tight
I'll take you in my arms and there you'll stay
If I get home on Christmas day

Writing letters everyday
Never really seem to say
The way I feel deep in this heart of mine
Thought I'm half a world away
If we're patient and we pray
Know I'll get my chance with you this time

If I get home on Christmas day
I won't need soft words to say
I'll miss you and I can stay a while
You'll see it in my eyes and when I smile

If I get home before midnight
While you're still sleeping tight
I'll take you in my arms and there you'll stay
If I get home on Christmas day
I'll take you in my arms and there you'll stay
If I get home on Christmas day

Blues and soul in equal measure make yet another Chrismas masterpiece. Backing vocals add to many of these festive songs and this one is no exception - 4 stars.

Despite the stupid intro, it's a great song. Love the strings, horns, but not so much the backing vocals. Elvis sounds great.

I love this song tremendously! This song and "Holly Leaves and Christmas Trees".......oh, and also "It Won't Seem Like Christmas Without You" are my very favorite Christmas songs---not just by Elvis, but EVER. Elvis' voice was perfect for Christmas music---he has the exact perfect combination of warmth and cheer, but touched by sadness and longing, that the best Christmas music has. (I guess that sadness part happens as you get older--no trace of sadness in "Here Comes Santa Claus" or "Santa Bring My Baby Back". Whatever it was, Elvis' voice managed to really make a serious strong imprint on Christmas music, as much as Bing Crosby did, and that is really saying something!)

A great contemporary seasonal track from the outstanding Christmas LP "Elvis Sings The Wonderful World Of Christmas" (1971). Along with "On A Snowy Christmas Night", "I'll Be Home On Christmas Day", "Holly Leaves And Christmas Trees" and "It Won't Seem Like Christmas", this track is not only a great Christmas song, but a terrific track period. 5 stars

Unfortunately I'm not able to share the entusiasm about this one. I feel he could have sung this one better. Because the song is ok. I'd rather go for I'll Be Home On Christmas Day, both versions. Along with Merry Christmas Baby and the long version of O' Come All Ye Faithfull the best ones on TWWOC, imo!

His best Christmas song since the 50's. An underrated gem.

This is my favorite song from his WWOC album. Ive been hearing it on the radio the last few years which is a nice switch from just hearing Blue Christmas all the time. Underrated and one of his better 70's vocals.

Love Christmas, never leave the house on Christmas day, I cook my famous Christmas day breakfast, while my son & his family make their way over to my house. After breakfast it's time to open the presents, but first i make sure i have an Elvis Christmas Cd playing. Does'nt matter which one, even the duets, i love them all. After opening the presents it's back to the kitchen, you've guess it, my famous Christmas dinner. But Elvis even gets aired in my kitchen. 'If everyday could be like Christmas'

RCA should pull a few more Christmas singles from the Christmas albums for Radio and Retail. This is one of the great songs, so overlooked.

Deserves a rerelease at Christmas. Don't undestand why this wasn't a great succes.
