I Will Be Home Again

Rating:
4.1 / 5

Words & Music: Bennie Benjamin Raymond Leveen Lou Singer

I will be home again
Don't worry dear
I'll be home again
So won't you dry the tear
The promise in your eyes
Will see me through
There'll be brighter skies
When I come back to you

A-a-ah sweetheart
The love you're giving
Thrills my hungry heart
You make my life worth the living
Although we are apart
I will be home again
We'll start anew
Darling until then
Our dreams will have to do

A-a-ah sweetheart
The love you're giving
Thrills my hungry heart
You make my life worth the living
Although we are apart
I will be home again
We'll start anew
Darling until then
Our dreams will have to do

Decent song on Elvis Is Back. Nicely sung, but nothing special. I don't skip this one, but i always skip Girl Next Door Went A Walking.

I always found this song to slow the great EIB LP down. It just isn't up to the standards of the rest of the LP. Sometimes a skip. Gotta be in the mood for it.

great song showing what Elvis could do with his voice anyone saying that they don't like this song or skipping this song is really beyond me

Easily (in my opinion) the worst track on the "Elvis Is Back" LP. This duet with Charlie Hodge isn't bad, and I would give it three stars; but it is a little out of place on the LP. When this is the worst song on an album, you know the rest of the album is outstanding and EIB ranks as one of his top five LP's. (Not counting golden records complilations or seasonal / gospel releases, I put it 4th behind "From Elvis In Memphis", "That's The Way It Is" and "Elvis Country". In 5th place, I would go with "Elvis Presley").

A decent recording but one of the weakest from the 'Elvis is back!' recording sessions. Charlie Hodge singing along is rarely a pleasure and this is no exception. Three stars from me.

This is such a fantastic song and the entire arrangement was terrific. I never skip it.

One of the great tracks from the great EIB Lp. Good recording in that's it is different. The FTD release is a great way to reveiw these 1960 recordings, Elvis was on top of the world and top of the chartrs.

I don't usually comment on albums when reviewing a song as imo it should be analysed in isolation. However the strength of the original EIB album was the variety of styles served up and this beautiful harmonised ballad added another audio facet to the release - deserves 4 stars.

14 of Dec. 2012. 11h03 GMT. I arrive in my office, completely wet as it’s pouring outside (Portugal isn’t always sunny!!) and put Elvis is Back LP playing. I open my computer and enter in my home page ElvisNews.com. I notice the Song of the day and... What can I say... great song (although the weakest in that album as it is one of the best in Rock Music)... and I never skip it. In fact the "sweetheart the love you're giving..." verse and it's piano is so so great, it makes my life worth the living.

OK song from my second favorite Elvis LP (number one is From Elvis In Memphis) the one I tend to skip is Soldier Boy. I know a lot of people slam "Girl Next Door" but I really like that song! Even though they are my two least liked songs from Elvis Is Back, I always thought Soldier Boy/I Will Be Home Again would have been an appropriate comeback single and having Stuck On You/Fame and Fortune on the LP in their place would have elevated that album to the undisputed best Elvis LP ever.

This used to be my least favorite song on Elvis Is Back. However recently I read the story of why and how Elvis came to record it in the book Welcome Home Elvis (FTD) and gave the song another listen . Now I really like it and feel it fits in well with the rest of the album.

I like the acoustic guitar. Must be Garland, because Moore didn't like to play acoustic and it's too good to be Elvis'. The song also has a great ending.

A great track, a great album. Elvis early sixty's. Great time for our boy. Wonderful singles, studio albums, even the films and there soundtracks were great. What could go wrong?

The whole Elvis Is Back album is pretty fantastic. Still, this particular song might be the least fantastic song on the album. And if the harmony could be removed and it was just Elvis singing, I suspect I would like the song a whole lot more. I still would never say it was a bad song, it just happened to be on an album surrounded by flawless beauties like "Such a Night" and "Reconsider Baby".

Personally not a standout track on an absolute standout album "Elvis Is Back!" However, it's acceptable when compared to "Thrill of Your Love" which I consider a slow moving drag of a song. I agree with some folks as to "The Girl Next Door Went A-Walkin'" which Elvis only recorded at Scotty Moore's insistence; now there's a real "dog" of a song.

Elvis did no wrong during those sessions. Elvis Is Back and those six singles still makes the expanded 18 track Elvis Is Back album one of his best. And even one of the best 60's albums overall. Lovely tune and harmony on this song.
