Help Me Make It Through the Night

Rating:
3.8 / 5

Words & Music: Kris Kristofferson

Take the ribbon from your hair
Shake it loose, let it fall
Lay it soft against my skin
Like the shadow on the wall

Come and lay down by my side
Till the early morning light
All I’m taking is your time
Help me make it through the night

I don't care what's right or wrong
I won't try to understand
Let the devil take tomorrow
'Cause tonight I need a friend

Yesterday is dead and gone
And tomorrow's out of sight
And it's sad to be alone
Help me make it through the night

I don't care what's right or wrong
I won't try to understand
Let the devil take tomorrow
'Cause tonight I need a friend

Yesterday is dead and gone
And tomorrow's out of sight
And it's sad to be alone
Help me make it through the night

I don't want to be alone
Help me make it through the night

Ho-hum. Sort of boring to me. Sorry.

Not a great track; but a decent one that led off the LP "Elvis Now"...What a shame RCA, Elvis and the Colonel picked the 10 songs they picked for this LP. This one would have fit in a little with the original concept of the LP (a folk album); but superior tracks such as "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", "I'm Leavin", "For Lovin' Me" and even a well edited version of "Don't Think Twice" would have been a much better representation of Elvis "now" than "Hey Jude", "Miracle Of The Rosary and "Sylvia" (which should have been on the "Love Letters" LP). HMMITTN gets 3 1/2 stars from me, the LP as it is, gets 2 1/2.

Not one of the best from our boy, and the whole performance seems a bit of a struggle from start to finish. I don't usually say this about him, but he does sound bored.- 3 stars tops.

The song is great, the band just don't deliver. Right now I'm listening to take 3, which sounds quite awful. So they probably released the right take.

Not one of his better better efforts; in particular the drag in tempo the band seems to be doing. Could have been much better.

I've always truly loved this song and I've always really enjoyed Elvis' studio master recording of it too. I've never skipped it. I'm so very glad that Elvis decided to record this iconic and hugely popular song. The other songs that Elvis recorded that were written by Kris Kristofferson were "For The Good Times" and "Why Me, Lord?".

i can listen to it, but there's nothing special about it.

Not a great performance imo I feel it’s too heavy and would be better if Elvis and the band softened up and gave it a more gentle approach. I like the Feb 71 Vegas version more. 3 stars
