Words & Music: Mosie Lister

My Jesus knows when I am Lonely
He knows each pain, He sees each care
He understands each lonely heartache
He understands because He cares

My Jesus knows just what I need
Oh yes! He knows just what I need
He satisfies and every need supplies
Yes, He knows just what I need

My Jesus knows just what I need
Oh yes! He knows just what I need
He satisfies and every need supplies
Yes, He knows just what I need

Elvis' voice is in superb control on this gentle gospel song.

Beautifully performed sacred song from Elvis' first sacred LP "His Hand In Mine" (1960). This album is outstanding from beginning to end.

Southern Gospel song writer Mosie Lister has penned some classic songs in his long career. Among them, Where No One Stands Alone, His Hand In Mine and this simple but moving song. Elvis must have listened to many more of Lister's gospel songs throughout his career and perhaps one day he might have made an album dedicated to the writers work.

A great track from a great album. Elvis told Rca he wanted to record a gospel album and he picked the songs, all of which were great.

A good song on a great album, His Hand In Mine. Truly indicative of the many musical sides of Elvis.

A good song from an outstanding album. When Elvis sings a gospel song you know something really special is taking place.

This is such a beautiful gospel song and Elvis' rendition of it was brilliant. The best gospel music will definitely always be Elvis' gospel music. Also, no one will ever be able to sing gospel songs as well as Elvis sang them.

How can so much soul and deep feeling emerge from one recording - marvellous.

It's a great recording, but it is not top-of-mind. If someone asked me to list my top 250 Elvis recordings, this would not make list. As stated in a previous post, Elvis' early gospel recordings remind me of the Dick Van Dyke episode, "The Twizzle" -- a nod to Elvis singing Peace in Valley on the Sullivan Show, a nod to Van Dyke's Broadway play Bye Bye Birdie, which was a nod to Elvis' induction into the army.

One of many great gosphel songs from the album "His Hand In Mind"; an album I received for Christmas in 1960 which completely surprised me as I hadn't a clue it was released. There's not one song on that album that pales; they're all great. I personally feel this is Elvis' best gosphel album.

a.k.a. "Jesus Knows What I Need" on all the back covers of the original "His Hand in Mine" album. It was printed as "He Knows What I Need" on most vinyl labels of the "His Hand in Mine" album throughout the years... sometimes "Jesus Knows What I Need". Millie Kirkham can clearly be heard on this fine recording.

There is not ONE song on that album I don't like. This one easily is another 5 stars. To me, His Hand In Mine tops the list of his sacred albums. Even if they are all good in their own right!

Lovely song. Elvis does a fine job. One of my faves from the LP. 4 stars.

I am not religious but I really enjoy his gospel recordings, especially his two 60's albums. You can feel that these songs really meant a lot to him. This is one of the better ones from "His Hand In Mine". 4 stars
