Elvis heard more in this song then I do. Background vocals are off. The song fits the movie though.
Wonderful song from Blue Hawaii, sung with feeling and conviction by Elvis, and was a great number to close the film. It transfers well to vinyl and scrapes 5 stars with me..
This is such a beautiful ballad and it's easily one of the very best ballads that's ever been written. I'm so glad that Elvis sang it at many of his concerts too.
I like this song and soundtrack and also the live versons. And some blame Elvis or Colonel to continue those lightweighted soundtracks, but it was this one and "G.I. Blues" which outsold the great "Elvis is Back" and "Something for Everybody"

Good song,good LP good film.My fav track though is "Beach Boy Blues". Angela lansbury is quoted as saying this was a low point in her career,has she never watched Murder She Wrote ? when she was on a TV programme last year in England she didn't mention acting with Elvis & wasn't asked by the host Paul O'Grady who is an Elvis fan ?
A Great song from a really fun album. "Blue Hawaii" was one of Elvis' better soundtrack LP's because every song on the album fit the movie perfectly. Even though some("Ito Eats") clearly are ridiculous most are fun to listen to and invoke a tropical feeling of actually being in Hawaii. Elvis' best since "King Creole". (also his biggest selling album ever) EP4EVER!!
An excellent song from a fun movie (Blue Hawaii) on a fine soundtrack (1961). Elvis' vocals had improved drastically on ballads by the early 60's (not that they weren't very good in the 50's) and his delivery is as smooth as silk. Elvis performed this song quite often in concerts, especially in 76 and 77 and he always took good care of this song. The LP under today's standards might be considered a little weak ("Ito Eats" and "Beach Boy Blues" are the beginning of the lesser movie material), but any album that has Elvis putting his voice to songs like "Blue Hawaii", "Hawaiian Sunset", "Ku-U-I-po", "Island Of Love" and the classic "Can't Help Falling In Love" is a top notch LP. 4 1/2 stars to both song and LP.
Great song, not a great album.
This is a good recording from a great album. The song was just right for the film and really the full soundtrack showed at the time that Elvis could do a big musical. And in 1961 it was one of the biggest. Never really reached these heights again.
I like this, like most of the ballads on this soundtrack albulm. Add Beach Boy blues and Steppin' Out Of Line also. I think Elvis did really well on the ballads here. Even though the album is not too often on my playlist, the ballads are on my random CDR collections. He even made some good renditions live on stage also! He obvisously liked this one!
I must say I prefer Jim Reeves' rendition of it. But, Elvis' version is wonderful too. Both are very good but otherwise incomparable.
Elvis was just brilliant with this one proving he could sing material no matter what. I laugh when I hear how many boundaries Michael Jackson crossed musically because I know Elvis did it better.
And the scene where the song was used in Blue Hawaii! "was so real that I thought I was married to the chick", Elvis later was quoted to say.
I still enjoy Elvis' version of this song as I did when I received the soundtrack as a present around 1962. The light weight songs were just fun songs then and this didn't seem to matter at the time. Unfortunately Elvis over egged the cake as the years moved on and made the song of the day seem like a standard in comparison.
One of the 5 songs I can tolerate from this over-blown soundtrack. Would have made a great EP.
