Hawaiian Sunset

Rating:
3.9 / 5

Words & Music: Sid Tepper Roy C. Bennett

Hawaiian sunset peeping from the sea
Smiles and says Aloha to his sweetheart Hawaii
The drowsy islands slumber one by one
Close their sleepy eyelids say goodnight to the sun

Then Hawaii like millions of times before
Blossoms in her lover's arms once more
Too soon the sunrise will wake her from her sleep
So until tomorrow, sleep Hawaii sleep.

Boring, boring, boring. This is what happens when u stuff 14 songs into a movie.

Not one of the best ballads from "Blue Hawaii", but not boring in the least. Elvis as he is with all of the "Blue Hawaii" tracks is perfect. 3 stars.

Beautiful ballad, perfect Hawaiian style, as that is what is was written for. Perfect voice, perfect backing.

I like the film and the soundtrack, OK the song is fairly lightweight but it jells in well with storry.

What was the name of the other song who sounded exactly like this one? Uh... oh, yeah! Island Of Love

Ho-hum. Another movie ballad that sounds like another movie ballad.

Beautiful song. Elvis at his vocal peak.

Nice song but much the same as the other ballads from the Blue Hawaii soundtrack.

A nice romantic song of a place I would dearly love to visit some day

So boring. Blue Hawaii is to me very, very overrated, both movie and soundtrack. Were there anything he didn´t sing about on that beach? I much prefer the movies and the soundtracks that followed this one

Good recording, indeed, a very good recording, on a very good Lp & soundtrack. Back in 1961 / 62 this was a big big hit. Elvis's Blue Hawaii was the right film at the right time. Elvis had done what a lot of bigwigs said he couldn't do, star in real musical. The movie was a big earner, the Lp stayed at #1 for months in both the Uk & USA not to mention the double sided Uk #1 single Rock a hula Baby c/w Can't help falling in Love. This was the now mature Elvis who had moved on from being the Rock 'n Roller. That said, as he went into 1963 the movies should have taken a step sidewards as it was then that Elvis should have toured the world, but then we all have our own views as to what happened over the next 4 to 5 years.

Way too many songs on this soundtrack. And "Steppin Out of Line"--which was cut--is better than many that stayed in. Still, with that said, I'd certainly cut "Ito Eats" and a few others before this one, but overall this is very forgettable. But yes, Elvis sounds great.

Don't say nothing to me. Fits in the movie, nice melody, but does't ring my bell at all. In fact i do have "something" with Blue hawaii (movie and soundtrack) since it marks the end of the Elvis I LOVE: The Rocker.

This is such a beautiful song and I love the entire "Blue Hawaii" soundtrack album.

Beautiful song, wonderful melody, sung to perfection by a great balladeer.

I forgot about this song. Elvis sings with a perfect voice, but the song is not memorable at all.

All the ballads on the Blue Hawaii soundtrack are fine with me. Well sung by Elvis! I like this one too!

Sweet memories from a long time ago.

Blue Hawaii was a musical set in Hawaii, therefore there’s going to be lots of songs about Hawaii with a Hawaiian flavour. The soundtrack delivers exactly what it says on the tin. This song delivers beautifully as do all the others on one of his biggest selling albums. Beautiful track 4 stars

Loved it when making my last comments and played it again just the other day. Loved it then, and love it now probably more in these turbulent times.

A gem from the great Blue Hawaii. The film was a monster hit and so too was the soundtrack album, this was just one of the great songs from it.

I know Roy Bennett and Sid Tepper often get a bad rap on this site, and yeah they did write some pretty forgettable tunes for our man ("Confidence," "Song of the Shrimp," and "Petunia, the Gardener's Daughter," anyone?), but they also wrote "Angel," "Am I Ready," "New Orleans," "All That I Am," and "G.I. Blues," to name a few. When the King had the right material by these two, he could make any songs of Roy and Sid's into his own, and "Hawaiian Sunset" proves it.

Just one of the many greats from Blue Hawaii, Elvis best musical. That said he should stop them and one back to making great studio recordings.
