Go East, Young Man

Rating:
3.0 / 5

Words & Music: Bill Giant Bernie Baum Florence Kaye

I'm gonna go where the desert sun is
Go where I know the fun is
Go where the harem girls dance
Go where there's love and romance

Out on the burning sands, in some caravan
I'll find adventure, while I can
To say the least, go on, go east young man

Go east young man, go east young man
You'll feel like a sheik, so rich and grand
With dancing girls at your command
Go eat and drink and feast, go east young man

I'm gonna go where the night's enchanted
Go where those dreams are granted
When paradise starts calling, into some tent I'm crawling

I hear those desert drums, and when nighttime comes
Then I'll make love the way I planned
To say the least, go on, go east young man

Go east young man, go east young man
You'll feel like a sheik, so rich and grand
With dancing girls at your command
Go eat and drink and feast, go east young man

Go eat and drink and feast, go east young man

Well what can you say? The title is embarassing but so was the whole movie. As a song, its actually not too bad, but more befitting Dino than Elvis Presley!

A passable tune from "Harum Scarum", but nothing more. This might be the 2nd best song on the album behind "So Close, Yet So Far" and it is at least "catchy", but it would not rank in the top 500 of Elvis' songs.

This song and the LP had an Eastern feel, so that worked ok if you knew the movie. So many Elvis soundtracks had just random songs thrown together, at least this one had a feel to it. That being said, there are no standout tracks including the way overrated So Close, Yet So Far.

Not a bad song as Elvis film songs go, but the Harem Holiday film and soundtrack was a real dog.

A fairly melodic song and they didn't come all that often in this dire film.

The song is okay. I give it 2 and a half stars. I love the Eastern feel to the album. 3 and a half stars. One standout track. So Close, Yet So Far. 4 stars. The movie stunk. 1 star.

OK song not as good as So Close Yet So far,it would have been great to see the King in a serious remake of The Shiek instead of the story that was given to him!!

Like a few ballads from this film, with their Eastern influence, I find them very palatable. Obviously not one of the top offerings from his career, but I am quite happy to listen and enjoy this performance in its own right. - 3 stars.

Again, what a voice! (wasted on songs like this). Strange how Elvis sings "grand" as an Englishman. Now it doesn't rhymne with man.

I love the movie and the whole album. Hey, it's Elvis after all!

hummm.Yes it's Elvis after all.His farts didn't smell of sweet flowers and his breath of sweet perfume.Guess it shows that even in the ass end of his career he could count on a thumbs up from some fans-tragic really

I always liked this song and all of the other songs from the "Harum Scarum" soundtrack. I've always liked the middle-eastern flavor of the "Harum Scarum" soundtrack too. The entire "Harum Scarum" soundtrack album is such a joy to listen to.

Not much meat on the bone here, Elvis doses what he can with it. It fits within the context of the film, but that is about as much as I can do for this song.

Don't think I've listened to this song in over 50 years

I like this song, along with most of the soundtrack. Not a classic of course but very listenable. Elvis’ voice is too up front though.
