Girl of Mine

Rating:
3.2 / 5

Words & Music: Les Reed Barry Mason

When your asleep beside me, I watch you lying there
Your hand upon the pillow and moonlight in your hair
I get the warmest feeling, so good I almost cry
I kiss your sleeping lips and say I'll love you 'till I die

Oh girl of mine you make my day
One sunny smile and all the clouds just roll away
Eyes deep as the sea seem to say to me
Our love will always be
So girl of mine turn out the light
And in my arms together we'll make sweet love tonight
Down life's golden road and you'll always know
I love you ... girl of mine

Sometimes I know I hurt you when things ain't goin' right
I walk away and leave you to face the lonely night
I wouldn't blame you darlin' if you walked out on me
But I return to find you there still waiting patiently

Oh girl of mine you make my day
One sunny smile and all the clouds just roll away
Eyes deep as the sea seem to say to me
Our love will always be
So girl of mine turn out the light
And in my arms together we'll make sweet love tonight
Down life's golden road and you'll always know
I love you ... girl of mine

The Raised On Rock album is not a particular favourite but I think that is Les Reed & Barry Mason song is one of the better tracks on the album

A song from the "Raised On Rock" LP that I go back and forth on. It is the worst of the ballads on the LP, but it isn't a bad song. It is a little dull however and one of the songs (like "She Wears My Ring" on it's LP "Good Times") that should have been shelved for this LP. ROR (minus "Three Corn Patches and this one) had the makings of a fine LP and all RCA had to do was wait 3 months to release it and they could have been some nice rock and uptempo songs on it to live up to the title ("Promised Land", "If You Talk In Your Sleep", "I Got A Feelin' In My Body", "Talk About The Good Times" and they didn't have to wait at all for "I've Got A Thing About You Baby!). 2 1/2 stars.

Dull and boring as was the LP

Not the best recording from these sessions, a mundane song lacking passion, soul and drive. Could anyone have done more with it.....perhaps.

Donald Dunn & Al Jackson play on this track, but were so nervous, that they only recorded the backing track, so that Elvis overdubbed his vocals later. The other version is that Elvis' microphone was stolen, so Elvis simply went home. Nevertheless, I think it's a great ballad.

I've always liked the song "Girl of Mine", but it should have been put on a different Elvis album. An album titled "Raised On Rock" should have been filled with just Rock 'N' Roll songs. Amazingly, there are five ballads on the "Raised On Rock" album.

A decently done country weeper that is best suited for lesser talents than Elvis. Ok, but Elvis could do better and was better than this honkytonk filler.

Elvis liked this song and that's why he recorded it. Thank God he also recorded songs he didn't like, like Burning Love and Stuck on You.

Elvis sounds stoned on this one. His timing is imprecise, he shows no passion, no energy, and the song itself is so unappealing and boring, that doesn't help either. Overall, like the album this song came from, a waste of time. 1 star.

Not very exciting; boring comes to mind to be blunt.
