Fountain of Love
Words & Music:
One thought of you,
my heart begins churning
I feel return
to a fountain of love
My lips and eyes,
they ache to be near you
To hold you here
in my fountain of love
Never be blue
should your world start sinking
Just come and drink
from my fountain of love
We'll build a new world off
on a high mountain
on our fountain of love
Recorded: , first released on
Great guitar playing on this song, that was recorded in 1962, not 1961. Not a height in Elvis' career, but enjoyable in it's own right.
This is such a beautiful and underrated song and I've never skipped it. Elvis' rendition of it was stellar too.
The voice of Elvis fits like a glove on the Latino styled songs and this one is no exception. Great tune, great performance and excellent arrangement - yes I like it a lot.
After "It's Now Or Never" was a smash hit in 1960, it seemed the next several recording sessions contained at least one attempt to "re-create" that sound. "Surrender" was the best known example and it was another huge smash hit. From there "Kiss Me Quick", "You'll Be Gone" and this one are fair to good, but no where near the records that INON or "Surrender" are. Great vocals by Elvis, but the song isn't a great written song. 3 stars.
Not one of my favorite songs, but an ok tune for easy listening. And dressingroomrehearsa - you are entitled to your opinion. Keep listening & keep enjoying.
I like the song! I like the album. As such, the 60 Masters set really shows how wonderful Elvis' voice were in the first half of the 60's. Add the His Hand In Mine sessions to those wonderful vocals and you can't go wrong.
Always liked the Pot Luck LP, one of my first Elvis albums. But FOL was not one the tracks that stood out, that was until a few years back when i started to 'burn' a few Cd's. I recorded FOL and woo, that guitar intro. Now it's one of my favorites. Comeon EP fans listen to that intro, ooooh it's great. So to was was 1961 and hit after hit. Lonesome tonight, Wooden heart, Surrender, Wild in the country, Latest flame & Little sister. All Uk #1's. We must note that Pot Luck was'nt released in the Uk until July 1962, when it to got to #1. Other chart toppers in '62 were Rock a hulu baby, Can't help falling in love, Good luck charm. Shes not you, & Return to sender. Great chart year for Elvis when you remember that 2 Ep's, Follow that dream & Kid Galahad also entered the Uk singles chart. And FOL is just one of many early 6o's great recordings.
This is a album track, that I really enjoy. Great vocal by Elvis.
I was all set to write a comment about this song really nothing special and dismiss it, but it turned out this is one of the 547 Elvis songs on my ipod, so I am listening to it this very second and it is far better than I remembered it. Elvis' voice is so smooth moving from the depths of the opening note to all the high notes throughout the song. The range of the song reminds me of Johnny Mathis and the style makes me think of Dean Martin. I can see how this wouldn't suit everyone's tastes--and in the end, it is a "slight" song, much like "Never Ending"--but taken on its own, out of all context (not compared to Elvis' other work, or what was going on in the 60's) it stands up well as a nice-enough song performed by an unmatched vocalist.
This LP & song indicated to me Elvis was moving away from Rock n Roll and moving toward crooner status. I find this one of his most studio boring recordings of the 60's. I hardly ever play it.
I always liked this song but it feels more like something Elvis would have recorded at home for fun rather than put out in the public domain. I think it's more fun to sing than to listen to but it's one of those guilty pleasures I don't mind hearing when it comes on. Probably cos I'm singing along!
dressingroomrehersa, care to read again ? It's an ok song, nothing more nothing less.
In my opinion, this is one of the weakest ´non-movie´ tracks he recorded in the 1960´s. I always skip this one! This has nothing to do with the early 60s Elvis from Elvis Is Back, or even Something For Everybody.
this one has a wonderful mood,, one of my favourites from Pot Luck next to Fountain of Love
very pretty song with a nice melody to it.Always been 1 of my faves on "Pot Luck."
These type of Latin themed ballads were already becoming passe by 1962 and Elvis had done enough of them already. My least favorite song from Pot Luck and one I always skip. No one is criticizing Elvis' singing. Its the material that is subpar. This is a very mediocore song and Elvis should have been given better material (as the 2 previous studio albims deleivered). With that stupid publishing rule attached to songs given to Elvis, he missed out on may top notch songs and had to deal with songs like this - very subpar material most major stars wouldnt have recorded.
Elvis the crooner, doing what he enjoyed the most at this time of his life !
When I was a kid I didn't care for this song. But as I grew older and came to really appreciate Elvis, the ballad singer, this song really grew on me. Now I really enjoy it. I wish I could hit those high notes.
This is a beautiful Elvis song little known to non fans and recorded at a time when Elvis' voice was at it's best. What a pity it was tucked away on an album(albeit a fine album).
