Words & Music: Anita Pointer/ Bonnie Pointer
I'll pack up all my things and walk away,
I don't want to hear another word you have to say
I've been waiting for so long
I just found out there's something wrong
And there's nothing what get better if I stay

There's no need to explain anymore
I tried my best to love you, now I'm walking out the door
You used me, you deceived me,
And you never seemed to need me
But I'll bet you won't forget me when I go

Seems I've been lost in a dream
Pretending that you care
But now I've opened up my eyes
And found it's all been just a great big fairytale

I've been lovin' you so long
Don't think I'd even know how to forget you
But now the way that things have been
I think I'm better off alone
Than to be with you

There's no need to explain anymore
I tried my best to love you, now I'm walking out the door
You used me, you deceived me,
And you never seemed to need me
But I'll bet you won't forget me when I go

Seems like I've been lost in a dream
Pretending you were mine
Someday you'll open up your eyes
And realize that a good man's hard to find
Recorded: 1975/03/10, first released on Today

I've alwlays liked this. The strain in his voice suits the song and performance here. Always liked the album too!

This is such a spectacular and fun song and I totally prefer the concert versions of it.

Elvis' vocals were spectacular on this one. Always El.

I also prefer the live-version I have of the song. This was the first song recorded that night. For me, Felton Jarvis gave the song too much country -treatment.

Yes there is an unease in Elvis's vocal performance and a tendency to overstrain reaching some notes. Still the overall effect is reasonable but I much prefer alternate take 2 which is sung slower and in a lower key.

Elvis seems to struggle with the tempo and the notes (very unusual for him) on the studio version that appeared on the Elvis Today LP. It still is not without its charm, but I much prefer the live versions.

One can hear he was furious while singing this song...

A great song by Elvis. He really gave the song a much needed boost. It give me a big smile whenever I hear it. As for introducing it as the story of his life, who know what he really meant, if anything. But, really, if he was being serious, it does describe his life - pretty much a fairytale when you think about it.

A very weak vocal on the studio master. The key is too high for Elvis and he struggles in the end to hit the high notes. On the outtakes its even worst. The In Concert version is far better, in my opinion.

To me, the BEST version is the live performance featured on "Dixieland Rocks" (FTD)

I like the song, but it's nothing special. I prefer the "Live" versions.

I like this song, it's not one of my favorites tho'... I have the impression that they speeded up Elvis voice on this particular recording.

One of the few songs in the later years that showed the spark Elvis still could have if he wanted.

One of the better later 70's songs. Not bad at all.

A really good song, like every song on "Today". I also like the live version from Elvis in Concert. I think that version shows that the Omaha show had its highlights, even though it was a pretty poor show

really nice song. I always wondered why Elvis anounced the song as "the story of my life". Is it about his love-life? I assume he didn't refer to his life with performances or to his audience.
