Dark moon, way up high up in the sky
Oh, tell me why, oh tell me why
You've lost your splendor
Dark moon, what is the cause your life withdraws
Is it because, is it because I've lost my love

Mortals have dreams of love's perfect schemes
But they don't realize, their love can sometimes bring the

Dark moon, way up high up in the sky
Oh, tell me why, oh tell me why
You've lost your splendor
Dark moon, what is the cause your life withdraws

This is such a tremendous song and Elvis' home recorded performance of it was terrific, but the sound quality isn't good. Elvis should have recorded this song professionally and properly in the studio instead.

I love this song, this was done exceptionally well, wish he had recorded it in studio, but any how a real gem.

Like a Bridge Too Far, a song too long.I accept that it's an informal recording and therefore well worth the time. What ever happened to the others, lost stolen?

The sound quality isn't too bad, but the song is, even though Elvis sings it seriously and very well.

Just a private recording but this is a bit nearer to a studio quality than many that have been released. One of the better recordings with a nice vocal harmony, which I can listen to now and then, and is well worth 3 stars.

I think the lyric is "Dark moon, what is the cause your "light" withdraws" rather than "life" withdraws. I too wish Elvis had recorded a version in the studio. This is perhaps my favorite of Elvis' home recordings.

This informal recording of a mediocre song is ok for an occasional listen and it was nice to have when it was released back in the 80's on the 6 record set "A Golden Celebration", but it isn't something that I want to listen to very often. It is as mentioned elsewhere, tedious and a bit on the boring side. I think the song of the day is chose randomly by the system out of all of the songs on the songbase and that is why many songs have never appeared and others have appeared randomly. Just like pushing the shuffle button on a CD player, you will hear one song three times before you hear another song on the CD once.

Tedious it goes on too long.

I don't understand why home recordings are reviewed when there are so many wonderful "commercial" recordings out there. I have even seen the same recording reviewed twice when there are hundreds of songs, many of which have never been reviewed or mentioned.

Interesting to hear informal recordings once or twice but nothing I can revisit very often. They are not 'real' recordings to judge.

This song is one among many informal recordings. Just to get the feeling of it or into the right mood for the bigger work. Never meant for the public, so to be judged from that angle. So you might say these recordings escaped! For me nice to hear how their informal get-togethers were.

How do you fairly rate a song that's just a home recording, and no professionially recorded version exists. Answer? You can't. But i'll give it three stars because I like the relaxed feel to the "arrangement." Elvis is having a good time, and his voice is wonderful. Wish he would have revisited this song in a studio setting.
