Rating:

Words & Music: Ben Weisman Sid Wayne Fred Karger

What's in the drink, chase the devil away
Magic I think so I just say Chesay
Chesay, Chesay bring you good luck night and day
Chesay, Chesay that's the gypsy way

Trouble is my middle name, though it's such a crying shame
Try and try there's nothing I can do
But I'm feeling kinda strange, feel like things are going to change
Time my lucky star was shining through
Chesay, Chesay bring you good luck night and day
Chesay, Chesay that's the gypsy way

Drink a cup of gypsy love just tip it up and then you just say Chesay
Swallow once then swallow twice, goes down so nice just say Chesay. Hey!

What's in the drink, chase the devil away
Magic I think so I just say Chesay
Chesay, Chesay bring you good luck night and day
Chesay, Chesay that's the gypsy way

Chesay, Chesay brings you good luck night and day
Chesay, Chesay that's the gypsy way
Chesay, Chesay brings you good luck night and day
Chesay, Chesay that's the gypsy way

Well... not one of his greatest hits... But I wouldn't say disaster... Somewhere in between... A substandard moviesong that was (to my knowledge) never released on another album.

Should have been called 'Cheesy' instead. Garbage.

If you judge it by it's title, it looks bad, but this one is surprising. A quick, energetic tune from the movie and soundtrack LP "Frankie And Johnny". Elvis actually sounds like he is having fun and it works well in the movie and is decent on record too. Garbage it is not.

Think of the year, 1966. Think of the unbelievable great music being made that year in pop, even by Sinatra & Darin. Then play this again. Yeah, its crap for an artist like Elvis.

This is a mediocre song that Elvis gives a very energetic treatment nevertheless. Elvis always tried to make something out of nothing and he partially succeeds here again. It is below average though in his repertoire. Two stars from me.

Catchy tune.

This soundtrack is the most "musical" of all of his movie soundtracks, and for me it works. It's a very focused and balanced soundtrack. I enjoy the movie and the soundtrack. Chesay is an enjoyable song. My favorite part is how Elvis sings: Trouble is my middle name, though it's such a crying shame; Try and try there's nothing I can do; But I'm feeling kinda strange, feel like things are going to change; Time my lucky star was shining through. Forever Elvis!

Works well in the film. Outside of the film, it doesn't. But I Love anything Elvis sings !

Another nail in Presley coffin! No one can respect this kind of tune.

Yes lets think about 1966 : Down in the alley, Tomorrow is a long time, Love Letters, Beyond the reef, Come what may, Fools fall in love, Indescribably Blue, I´ll remember you, If every day was like christmas and on top of that the How great thou art album !! Is this lousy ? I think it shows what a great artist Elvis was that some "Fans" think that this was a bad year. And don`t tell me what I can or Can´t respect, I love most Elvistunes because of his voice and that is as good a reason as any. TCB

Musically, Elvis was rediscovering himself. It is too bad that some rate Elvis' artistic expression in the mid-60' based soley on some less-than-stellar movies. That myth gets even more exploited when you consider how RCA, IMHO, was mismanaging Elvis' music during this time. Many of the great songs recorded in 1966 deserved their own place on albums, not as "extras" on soundtracks. The song under consideration here, it's a song for a movie. It was never meant to become a rock classic. It is musical filler for a movie, nothing more nothing less.

As a child I liked this but as I grew older I realised that this is far removed from Elvis best work. Having said that I can listen to the take 1 from the FTD soundtrack, not saying its superb by any means but just ok on a rare occasion.

I've always thought of "Chesay" as a very fun Elvis song to sing along to even though it's not a great song. I've never skipped the song while listening to the "Frankie And Johnny" soundtrack album.

I always enjoy this song and join in the chorus, but would have liked it to be longer. I imagine cossack dancing happening while this is on, and everybody having a great time - yep never skip this one.

This has an interesting intro. There is a certain drive in the song and Elvis is singing it well. A mediocre song sung by Elvis, is a song I'll listen to.

The world of music was advancing at a rapid pace and Presley was doing crap like this? What planet was he and the Colonel on at that time? A soundtrack song for sure, but crap never the less.

It is what it is! Short, but still enjoyable. A song for a scene in a movie, sung by the actor, Elvis Presley. It is not Elvis Presley music as such. Still, I enjoy listening to it in between. From the double feature CD that is!

Not the type of recording you'd expect from the King of Rock 'n' Roll. For what it is, a song written and recorded to support the plot of a movie, it's not too bad. What puts it down is that we all know Elvis had the ability to record masterpieces and set musical trends. At the time he was only recording soundtracks. Thankfully he would soon be back in the studio to do what he did best. This song, when not taken seriously, is weirdly enjoyable. 2.5 stars

Not great, but not terrible either. Catchy tune from a mediocre soundtrack.
