Bringin' It Back

Rating:
4.1 / 5

Words & Music: Greg Gordon

If I can never see you, if I can never hold you
If I can never touch your face or feel your warm embrace
I still remember talkin', I still remember laughin'
I still remember lovin' you a lot and touchin' you

Only bringin' it back, only just bringin' it back
A familiar face, a familiar face just brings it all back
Everything's bringin' it back, good songs bringin' it back
Even after so much time, everything's bringin' it back

Thinkin' in my solitude, wonderin' about your attitude
Thinkin' maybe that your love has died
There it is, I can see it in your eyes
A look of sweet surrender, a touch of too much sadness
'Cause I've hurt you so, you know your sorrow shows
You just can't stay, but you can't let go

One of the underrated ballads of the 70's much like It's a Matter of Time or Thinking About You.

I still like this song. I made my own version about my dog Ol' Shep and his frisbee- "Ol Shep keeps bringing it back, bringing it back"..

I like it but its nothing special. Elvis was becoming rather predictable by the mid-70's and this song blurred into the many others he did. Probably too much production also, would have sounded punchier with less 'sweetening'.

I like it. I like the guitar, I like the voice, I like the song. Period.

Just a nice average ballad. I don't think it was meant to set the world on fire. As far as predictable goes, listen to the Stones or Neil Diamond. It becomes rather boring. Better yet, attend one of their concerts. You can set your watch according to the next number.

One of the better ballads from the 70's. A window to The Kings feelings at that time. Much better than many of the morose songs that would come a little later.

Nice, pleasant song. I like it, but nothing special.

I have to go against most of the opinions on this one. This is by far the worst track on the album "Elvis Today" ("Fairytale" on this LP is the next worse). It isn't terrible, but the lyrics are subpar (using words such as solitude with attitude together just because they rhyme makes it sound like a love poem written by your average person, kind of like willow and pillow in the song "Sylvia"). Elvis' voice is rather weak on the 2nd verse and he doesn't seem to be into this one. Perhaps because there isn't much to get into. If you want a window into his soul, listen to the "morose" (not my word, my word is great) "From Elvis Presley Boulevard" LP where Elvis puts his emotion into each line of every song. This one is no where near the track of "Thinking About You" or "It's A Matter Of Time". 2 1/2 stars

I really like this one! As I've always liked the entire Today album. To me it was a fresh breeze when I first heard it on vinyl. And it has kept it's place among my fav Elvis albums. There's something about the melody and the phrasings from Elvis that does it to me. That is something that make music good to listen to, regardless of the meaning of the words! Elvis often made his own phrasings, as we all know, simply to make it "sound" better!

A good song from one of my favourite Elvis albums.

Should have been a bigger hit, when it was released as a single, from the "Elvis Today" album. The Flip side of the single was the song "Pieces of My Life", which was a strong "B" side. It was a solid release.

Elvis seems to be singin' quite high and makes it difficult for himself. He pulls it off though. The lyrics aren't particulair well. Good song, because of Elvis.

I have grown to like this song more through the years having been so fixated on the other side of the single Pieces of My Life. Pleasant, easy on the ear, Elvis in vocal control and apprently in a nice place in his life at this time results in a nice production all round.

I always Loved this song ! It should have been a huge radio hit. It was the second single release from the album "Elvis-Today". The flip side was the equally excellent song "Pieces of My Life".

I've always loved this ballad immensely and it should have been a big hit for Elvis here in the United States, but it sadly wasn't. Elvis' rendition of it is brilliant and the lyrics of the song are spectacular too.

Always liked this song, in fact he's in fantastic form on the whole album... 1975 was a pretty good year both in concert and in studio... I also think Elvis says 'could' three times (instead of 'can') in the opening lines which to me makes a lot more sense... But what do I know, I always thought he said "Thinkin' in my solitude, wonderin' about your 'latitude'" as though he didn't know where she was!

A nice song from one of my favorite albums. Not strong enough to make it a big hit but an excellent track for the album. One of the few times that Elvis when to the studio with the sole purpose of recording an album and he did exactly that. He was in good form and I wish he had recorded more songs during these sessions.
