Blue Christmas

Words & Music:
Billy Hayes/ Jay JohnsonI'll have a Blue Christmas without you
I'll be so blue thinking about you
Decorations of red on a green Christmastree
Won't be the same dear, if you're not here with me
And the when those blue snowflakes start fallin'
That's when those blue memories start callin'
You'll be doin' all right, with your Christmas of white
But I'll have a blue, blue, blue, blue Christmas Recorded:
1957/09/05, first released on
Elvis' Christmast albumReactions
A classic, even before Elvis recorded it. On the 1968 Singer Special album, Elvis introduced this song as "my favourite christmas song off the ones that I recorded", but RCA had cut out Santa claus is back in town, so Elvis didn't mean Blue Christmas to be his favourite christmas song.
On an incredible Christmas Album issued in 1957, this song good as it is. still comes as my 3rd or 4th favourite..
This is one of those unique songs that you recognise as soon as it starts, which found its way into the concert circuit as late as 1977. Yes he enjoyed singing this one.
While it is a song that I have tired of over the years, it is still a 5 star track that is almost as closely identified with Elvis as "Hound Dog" is. I never cared for the female voices on the song; but that is nitpicking. Quite simply, a true classic.
One of the classics and a song that is only identified with Elvis at Christmas time.
