Because of Love

Rating:
3.4 / 5

Words & Music: Ruth Batchelor Bob Roberts

Because of love, I'm a hundred feet tall
I can bounce this world like a little old ball
The heaven and earth are now all mine
I've jumped to the moon from cloud number nine
Because, because, because, because of love

Because of love, I'm a mighty big man
I hold the sun in the palm of my hand
Just one leap I can cross the seas
Jump over mountains and fly over trees
Because, because, because, because of love

Well I found love, I found love
That's all that I can say
Oh I'll never, never, I'll never, never
Never let it get away

Because of love, I'm the happiest guy
And life is sweet as cherry cream pie
Well heaven and earth are now all mine
I've jumped to the moon from cloud number nine
Because, because, because, because of love
Because, because, because, because of love

Elvis seems a bit tired on this song, I much prefer Billy Fury's cover version

Not a bad song, one of the better ones from Girls! Girls! Girls!. That doesn´t mean that it´s a classic, it does mean that the other songs in the movie was really poor, apart from Return to sender and We´ll be together. This could be Elvis´ worst musical of all times. I think so even if Double Trouble also is a little embarrassing to watch

A pretty love song, very well sang by Elvis. One of the bettter ones from the soundtrack album. The album wasn´t as bad as some may think, but the tracks had to fit the Hwaiian scene for the most part. It much better than Paradise Hawaiian Style.

It's not a bad song, but I'm sure you'll never find it on a Greatest Hits compilation. The bad think about the movie "Girls! Girls! Girls!" is that it has too many songs on it, most of them average tunes, like Because Of Love, Earth Boy, Song Of The Shrimp(!), etc.

Sort of boring...

Except for the title tune & Return To Sender this whole soundtrack was a bore to me and one I have not played through in about 15 years. Cant sit thru the movie anymore either. The downfall had begun.

i thought this was 1 of the better tunes in the film but thats not saying much. "walls have ears" is by far the worst Elvis movie song he ever recorded."I dont wanna be tied " was the best in "Girls!".

Life is sweet like cherry cream pie. With heavy lyrics like this I would have thought surely Bob Dylan would have been the author.

One of my faves on a soundtrack with lots of ballads. Lovely. As for the film itself, I enjoy it. Really enjoy the FTD version of this soundtrack. Play it a lot.

As someone once said: The success of Blue Hawaii set the mark for all of the upcoming movies. So, Girls, Girls, Girls was another attempt to catch on to the success of the former musical. Or as Parker said: Too much is not enough.

Not a particularly memorable song, film or album.

Pretty bad song, film & soundtrack. I can never listen to it except for a few songs. This is Elvis really singing crap.

A movie ballad with subpar lyrics made better by Elvis' nice vocals. The film was a fun, breezy movie that at one time was the 10th most shown movie on TV (pre-cable TV days, I am showing my age). The soundtrack was a step down from "Blue Hawaii", but it still had some nice tunes (the title tune, "Where Do You Come From", "A Boy Like Me...", "I Don't Want To", "I Don't Wanna Be Tied", "We'll Be Together" and the great "Return To Sender"). It also had an abundance of situational tunes that fit the movie, but fail to be as appealing on record ("Earth Boy", "The Walls Have Ears", "Thanks To The Rolling Sea" and "We're Coming In Loaded". "Because of Love" falls somewhere between these groups. 3 star song, 3 star album.

Big hit the Uk for Billy Fury. I like the Elvis version, but i think Elvis should have given it the real Elvis treatment. Wonder what it would have sounded like if he had recorded it soon after leaving the army.

One of the dullest, most boring songs Elvis ever recorded. As always, Elvis sung it beautifully, but I don't know how he did it without yawning through the whole thing. If not for "Return To Sender" and "I Don't Wanna Be Tied" the soundtrack to Girls, Girls, Girls would really rank as one of the absolute worst (to me personally). Even the outtake "Plantation Rock" is better than this track.....and "Song of Shrimp", and "The Walls Have Ears"...and "Thanks To The Rolling Sea".... man this soundtrack really was a new low at the time!

Pleasant melody and well sung. For me the GGG album is very clearly where the downfall began. No really BAD songs - that was to come - but it's a terribly bland soundtrack, an album of B sides and that's not good enough for Elvis in 1962 before the rise of the Beatles and a genuine lack of material forced him into recording mediocrity for his movies. Return to Sender was the only great song on the GGG album although Because of Love is the one other song I could live with when I first heard this album. Many listens later I'm now more forgiving of the disc as a whole but it's still a disappointment that the rot started this early.

Pleasant song with really smooth mellow singing done well, by Elvis. Not a favorite Elvis movie, of mine, but it did feature some nice songs.

I always enjoy the entire "Girls, Girls, Girls" LP including this tune.

The material for the GGG movie was not great but Elvis delivered superb vocals like always in the early sixties. In essence, GGG is very similar to the Blue Hawaii soundtrack, but missing top notch ballads like Can't help falling in love and Hawaiian wedding song. The duo Batchelor/Roberts delivered two ballads for this soundtrack with this one being better as Where do you come from, as the lyrics of that song are outright silly. For this sweet as cherry cream pie song and delivery, three stars from me.

I like this song and liked the Billy Fury version too. If Elvis was looking for something to put on his song list for the 70's live concerts, he could do much worse (and he did!) than a live version of this. I would much rather listen to this than those awful 'you don't have to say you love me', 'if you love me let me know' etc etc.

Good song, good film.Return To Sender & I Don't Wanna Be Tied great to watch !
GEORGE (GK) wrote on November 21, 2011
Elvis sings this in a nice mellow smooth voice with amazing vocal control. It's not Elvis sounding tired and bored, as some have written. And, its far from dull ! Its an easy listening Track and it's a good one !

This song finds its way on to every Elvis film compilation I have created. The timbre and mellow soulful sound of his voice make this the second best song on GGG. Billy Fury made a good version that entered the lower reaches of the UK top twenty.

This is such a terrific song and Elvis' rendition of it was magnificent. I've never skipped it.

It's boring alright. Did the writers smoke something when they wrote these lyrics? They were definitely on cloud number nine.
alanfalk wrote on May 26, 2013
As someone said a damn good easy listening song, and a fairly good soundtrack. I wonder what the people who think the lyric is silly think about the lyrics to Hound Dog or Flip Flop or Fly ??
cookingfat wrote on May 26, 2013
I remember Billy Fury covered the song and had a hit with it.Good song, not struck on Elvis' version though, sounds mlike he's on valium
jimsayshello wrote on May 14, 2015
Always quite enjoyed this one. Elvis voice was still commanding in '62. Just listened to Billy Fury's version. He sounds like every Elvis impersonator who thinks to sound like Elvis, you need overt, unsubtle, uncontrolled vibrato. Cringeworthy.

I actually like this soundtrack and yes, there's some really mediocre songs, but let's not forget the big one "Return To Sender". I don't believe this was the start of his demise musically, but the material being provided certainly wasn't up to the task in a lot of instances.
