Reviews

Elvis final concert tour began in Springfield, Missouri 17th June 1977, and continued with filming for CBS TV in Omaha & Lincoln, Nebraska (June 19 & 20) and Rapid City , June 21. Additional footage were done on Cincinnati airport 25th June and finally on Indianapolis runaway just before his last concert. We all know (and in CBS TV special called "ELVIS IN CONCERT you could see it) how Elvis was terminally very ill, bloated and looked sad and desperately tired, but despite all these problems, he tried hard to give the fans the best what he could.
As far, as I know, also amateur footage exist from Kansas City, Missouri 18th,Omaha, Madison, Wisconsin 24th and from two last concerts in Cincinnati and Indy too, some black and white, some color, in various degree of quality and they're brings the same poignant feelings like CBS special.

This CD covered Elvis penultimate night in Cincinnati Riverfront Coliseum and surprisingly, he sounds quite good, not so slow as usual and he is in rich and deep voice and in very good mood throughout , one of the very best shows from whole tour and from 1977 too , in my opinion.Concert was secretly taped by member of audience and the sound quality is quite good for this kind of recordings. Included is part of the "Warm-Up" acts with two gospels by J.D. Sumner and The Stamps Qt. ("Golden Mile" and "If You Don't Come Back") and the next two by The Sweet Inspirations - rhythmic "Hot Hot Sunday" and tender, moody and very nice "If You Leave Me Now", my personal favorite.

After 2001 theme and C.C. Rider Elvis apologized for being late and continued with usual repertoire. "Love Me" is a little bit better than average and "If You Love Me" and "You Gave Me A Mountain" are both excellent, just as "It's Now Or Never". Oldies aren't so trashed as very often and real highlights follows : for the very last time performed "And I Love You So" and "My Way" - they're great. Elvis then introduces the band with some jokes,John Wilkinson as "Wayne Newton" before nice "Early Mornin' Rain". All Instrumental solo's are edited out, but it isn't big loss.Next is short but carefully sung "I Really Don't Want To Know" and then he introduces his father and girlfriend Ginger, her sister Terry Alden (Miss Tennessee 1976) and their mother Rosemary. When he announced "Unchained Melody", you could hear wild screaming and this last performance of this song is also biggest highlight of whole show - well known Rapid City one pales in comparison !!! Elvis also shortly commented the feedback in mid of the song. He sang it also at racquetball courts, August 16, for Ginger and cousin Billy & Jo Smith. After "Can't Help Falling" you can hear all closing announcements.

So in all, this is very interesting CD in listen able audience recorded sound , now very rare on bootleg market and probably expensive too. Maybe not for regular fans, but for collectors a must.
