Reviews

We have just received the latest release from the Famous Groove label entitled " Night Rider '61 ". This one has been expected for a long time since we've first heard about this almost 18 months ago. The artwork is rather simple but I must say the front cover looks good.
It contains alternate takes recorded on October 15 & 16 1961. The songs feature on this CD are : Night Rider, For The Millionth And The Last Time, I Met Her Today, Anything That's Part Of You and Good Luck Charm. The masters weren't included for lack of space. Most of these tracks has been officially and/or unofficially released in the past on titles like : There's Always Me vol.1 & 3, 24 Carat Gold, Essential Vol.6, Collectors Gold, Especially For You , Anything That's Part Of You and more recently on the Unsurpassed Masters box-sets.

The sound quality isn't bad but nothing exceptional and have to wonder why it's being released now. It could had been an excellent CD 5-6 years ago but now hardly essential. The most interesting track on this CD would be " Night Rider -take 1 ". At first I thought this take was on " Collectors Gold " CD set but this isn't the case. The BMG set contains a false start then take two of " Night Rider " (1961 version) while here you have a false start, then the complete take 1 and finally the complete take 2.

If you have several of the releases mentioned previously you don't really need this CD. On the other hand it could be interesting if you don't have them and particularly interested with those specific songs. Hardly an essential CD in my book, at least not anymore.
