Reviews

I just received my copy of the new Madison release " A Capital Performance " but it'll be a short review since another person will make a more in-depth review pretty soon. This CD contains the Jackson,MS. June 8th 1975 evening performance. We already got several shows from that tour and as all the others this is incomplete. The beginning of the show is from the June 10th 1975 Memphis show. First I must say the overall product is excellent and the eight page booklet is quite attractive to say the least and very typical of the Madison label. All the pictures featured on the artwork are from the Jackson,MS evening show as well. For those who are interested with such details they were taken by Sean Shaver. The text inside was adapted from Christopher Brown's book " On Tour With Elvis " who attended all the concerts from this May/June 1975 tour.

The show by itself doesn't contain any surprises and very typical of that tour. However Elvis is in great voice and overall his performance is excellent considering he gave a matinee show the same day in Jackson. The sound quality is as good as the DAE release " Let Me Take You Home " minus the added reverb. I'm not a big fan of reverb additions on soundboards and prefer to hear this as recorded.

My personal highlight on this new Madison outing would be " The Wonder Of You ", " Polk Salad Annie ", " Let Me Be There " and " Mystery Train/Tiger Man ". As always these choices could vary from one person to another but those are the ones I dig the most. At one point Elvis referred to " Where's that fly " while singing " Let Me Be There " . I guess they had problems with this during the matinee performance as reported by Christopher Brown which explains the photo inside with Elvis entering the stage with a fly swatter under his arms.

I think most fans will enjoy this new release from the Madison label.

Another label is also releasing the same show under the same title. I'd like to point out the above outing was first advertised last November and guess it took only deviant and disturbed producers to release theirs with the same title. I read that this label will re-write history with their product. I think it's a bit far fetched but in a way they re-wrote history. Indeed we can see one day that " Polk Salad Annie " is missing on the back cover and all of a sudden the next day it's there....yes you can say history has been re-written. They also made a big fuss with the Jackie Kahane act being featured on their outing. Well I have attended 34 Elvis concerts but only saw his act twice, basically he was boring me to death and never found him very funny. I was always going to my seat after he finished his act so who cares about this ? I certainly don't !!!

From what I've seen their artwork looks amazingly amateurish (with also pics from Sean Shaver but from the July 9th 1975 Terre Haute,IN. show), and one person on our message board summed up pretty well my thoughts on this " The Madison release looks classy, with a great shot of a radiant and happy Elvis on stage. The packaging of the other release is decidedly dodgy, with Elvis being cut out so badly that it seems that he's wearing a Jackson five wig, while the colors in his face look very unnatural. He actually looks like a wax dummy! "....'nuff said !!!!!
