The Best Of British - The RCA Years 1957-1958

By ElvisNews.com/ Lex, October 19, 2014 | Book

Another co-production between Flaming Star and FTD, this time it’s Trevor Simpson’s second part of The Best Of British.

Design

The front cover must be one of the best book covers ever. The setup of the book is the same as the first volume. Well thought over display of text and eye candy in the form of pictures, memorabilia, sleeves and a lot of blondines.

Content

The book covers the RCA releases in the UK, divided in parts by record type (singles, EPs and LPs). Tons of background information assure you of fuel for hours and hours of reading.

The CD (misprinted with the subtitle of the first part, HMV years, quite sloppy) has an enormous con with a false answer machine message, I am surprised AP didn’t do a press release on it. All together I think the CD is fun to play once or twice because of the demos mainly. The trailers are fun, but makes it less pleasant to listen to if you want to hear background music.

Conclusion

I adore this book, the CD won’t be much more often out the plastic.

This is an excellent book. I have received my copy but have only had limited time to look at it. So far it looks impressive and is highly recommended.
