Now... And Again

By ElvisNews.com/ Lex, April 06, 2015 | Other

FTD’s vinyl version of Now has seen the light of day. I was pretty positive about the FTD CD version of the album, how about this version?

The weirdest thing about this LP-set is not leaving out Hey Jude, but the addition of For Lovin’ Me and Love Me, Love The Life I Lead (takes 5,6) . Those two songs weren’t on the CD and appear on this set.

The weird compilation that the original was echoes in this version because the different sessions obviously sound pretty different on vinyl (or were hard to master the same way). Where Sylvia and For Lovin’ Me are mindblowing on vinyl, the other songs do not benefit that much of this superior medium.

All together the album might not be Elvis’ strongest material, but I did enjoy listening to it and it will find my turntable more often for sure!

To me a cd of outtakes is better than take after take of one song,i just dont see the fun in that.

I bought the G.i, Blues FTD. Vol. 1 if you will. That's enough G.I. Blues for me. Pass.

I'll go for this , only because I love Pocketful of Rainbows. I'd also go for an album of songs that Elvis recorded at home in Germany !

Great to get this CD. Together with Vol. 1 we have the entire session in top-quality. Mature, you can't see the fun in it? I'm a collector. That's why I love sessions and outtakes. Can't get enough. And my favourite takes? I pick them from all existing takes and burn my own favourite-CD within 10 minutes. An idea other 'mature' fans don't seem to have. Hearing Elvis work on the titles I grew up with is what FTD is all about for me. This is what collecting means to me. I always wonder what people -who want nothing more than a "Legendary Performer" CD every 3 years- are searching here on a site with a FTD session-CD review. They are in the wrong corner of Elvisnews. FTD was made to conserve and present Elvis' work. So, if you hate his studio sessions, or boring 1969 shows with ever repeating songs and jokes. If you hate the dumb movie soundtracks and the sick Elvis, the unbalanced soundboard-Elvis. The squeaky SUN Elvis, the drugged Jungle Room Elvis, the stiff Aloha Elvis .. well .. then FTD has nothing to offer for you. But if you see these outtakes as precious, rare documents of music-history in the making, then FTD is for you. And only then you see the fun in them. And only then it makes sense to write another comment under a FTD review.

Boxcar, your remarks are quite true. I also enjoy listening to the rehearsals. That being said, I wonder if there is smething new here as I bought the MRS release.

"mature" is bashing all FTD releases, because he has something against Ernst, try to go back under other FTD releases and look at his comments, I will bet you can't find any positive comments about them from him. In my eyes that kind of disqualifies his posts as useless when it comes to FTD. Even when the topic is not a FTD release, he slips in negative comments about Ernst or the label, how lame is that !

Yes but what mature doesnt do is bash others views, how lame is that? I also dont care for the bullying that some try,my views are mine, you have your own, sorry i dont think ernst is that great. But you probally loved stage rehearsals and the way it was. And check out my postative thoughts on on stage season!!

We did not talk about Stage Rehearsal and other unneccessary releases by FTD. We talked about your comment that you 'can't see the fun' in FTD releasing studio-sessions. And this remark is senseless.

I like outtake cd's with differt songs, you like complete sessions, does it have to be a big deal,i dont get why some get so upset over such a thing,im not stoping you from from getting what you want, everyone doesnt like the same thing. Some like the rehearsal disc some dont, something that is not so great to others might be,its nothing to get upset about. We should just give our views and not worry about trival stuff, isnt there more important things to get upset about? I know i have enough things in my life to worry about, were all here for the same reason. Enjoy,Merry Christmas

GI Blues is a pretty good sounding album anyway, but the remixed versions of the original masters are an improvement in dynamics, transparency and overall sound quality. It is worth it just for the first 12 tracks.

I'm fine with the G.I. Blues masters as they are. They sound fine to me as they are. But glad the remixes are there for those who feel they are necessary.

I received my copy yesterday along with the FTD "Elvis In Memphis". This second volume, if you will, is the one to get; in particular the remixes of the original masters. Absolutely awesome to put it bluntly and the outtakes are worth every penny. I've got an extensive Elvis collection and I've numerous past issues as pertains to this soundtrack "G.I. Blues" and without a doubt this two CD FTD issue is very, very interesting as you get to hear the process of Elvis and company from take 1 to the master issued and these are the songs on the actual soundtrack which was released back in 1960. There are a few miscues as far as tempo (speed) aka "Frankfort Special" which segues back into the right tempo and sound. This FTD issue is a real "fly on the wall" listening experience to put it bluntly. I can't imagine what the first volume sounds like as you've got the "meat and potatoes" in this CD. Great job FTD! Great job!
