Moody Blue

Jun 5, 2000
Probably one of the best original Elvis-covers is destroyed by this new release. They did save it on the inside, but still we wonder what idiot came up with this idea, and how he managed to accomplish it. Beside the change of the picture the gradient is terribly done. Any newby can do better with his PC. Some great Bonja-pictures in the inlay ease the pain a little. When a real fan buys this release he can always put the booklet in backside first to get the real cover.
The music on this CD is discussed pretty often because of the release of the "Jungle Room Sessions". We get the complete masters of the Graceland sessions here, but from the original LP "Let Me Be There" is omitted. Because it is available on "Live on Stage in Memphis" already, the cover states. Weren't all other songs available yet? Again... botch work, it isn't the original album (with extra's) anymore! Especially for non fans, who probably won't buy the life album, but want to have this re-release because they bought the album in 1977.

Original 1977 review

This live album, pressed appropriately on blue vinyl, spotlights the vocalist on 10 selections. When he journeys back into the past to breathe new life into rock and roll classics, this is unbeatable Elvis. His updates of the Diamonds' "Little Darlin'" and Johnny Ace's "Pledging My Love" are outstanding. Less interesting, however, are his slick, orchestrated covers of Olivia Newton-John hits and the like. J.D. Summer & the Stamps and the Sweet Inspirations provide some excellent accompanying vocals. Elvis produced in association with Felton Jarvis. Best cuts: "Unchained Melody," "Little Darlin'," "Pledging My Love," "He'll Have To Go." Dealers: This LP benefits from a particulary attractive cover.

A small shake-up. "Pledging My Love", b-side of his last single, is absolutely fantastic!
