Live A Little, Love A Little

By ElvisNews.com/ Lex, December 18, 2015 | Music

Something you won’t expect in the classic album series, the EP of this movie, but here it is. At least it brings some new outtakes!

Design

The release is presented in the familiar way of these series. Great cover, nice booklet and original label printed on both the CD and place where it fits. Unfortunately the booklet carries not too many pictures of Michele Carey, whose looks certainly helped to make the move endurable.

Content

The movie only had 4 songs, and that’s what we get on this CD. The masters and outtakes of these 4 songs. Gladly they are mixed up nicely, so the listen doesn’t get too boring.

I have to admit that I loved Wonderful World when I first heard it on the Flaming Star LP. In my advantage speaks that I was only 9 or 10 years back then.  As I grew older I thought the walz thingie fitted better on a fair, but compared to many other movie songs it isn’t that bad.

Edge of Reality is something else, I am one of those suckers for it (while I mostly don’t like these over the top musical type of songs).

A Little Less Conversation has always been one of my favourite movie songs, at least as long as it is not touched by a frickin’ DJ. I never mind to hear Elvis’ original of this catchy tune.

Almost in Love is nice background music, when you have guests, in a lift or shop… it never gets on your nerves, but also isn’t one of his better ballads.

All together the CD is pretty listenable, with some funny studio banter and alterations, but not of the outtakes is really different from the master, so it is a lot of repetition too. I played it several times now the past 10 days, but I guess it won’t find its way to the player much more after shelving.

Conclusion

Mainly for the completists or those with a soft spot for one of the songs.

I'm not a completist, but I do enjoy all the songs (and outtakes). A wonderful addition to my FTD collection.

Many thanks to Ernst for finding this material. It is good to have this on CD and gives a nod to another one of Elvis' movies. The songs are certainly a step-up for some of the movie songs. I am actually looking forward to hearing this one when I receive it on December 25th.

A little too repetitive for my liking but it is cool they found the tapes. Hey you never know what else may turn up.

They say on the booklet that take 2 of " Little Less Conversation " was out before on the " Memories " CD , but the take 2 isn´t complete on the FTD version , but on " Memories " it is !!!!!!

Has it been revealed by Ernst (in the booklet or anywhere else) exactly where the tapes were located?

I still think the 2001 version of ALLC was taken from the 68 comeback special... I remember hearing that on Memories (before the remix) and was blown away by a track I'd never really liked. There's nothing on this album that comes close to the excitement of the one on Memories.
