"I believe in the Bible. I believe that all good things come form God. I don't believe I'd sing the way I do if God hadn't wanted me to. My voice is God's will, not mine."
At 5.01 p.m. on February 1, 1968 Elvis became a father for the first and only time, when daughter Lisa Marie was born weighting 6lb. 15 ounces. Two months later, April 4, Martin Luther King was assassinated at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis. With King's death almost on his doorstep, Elvis panicked! He hired 4 armed guards to patrol Graceland around the clock, and stocked his home with 35,000 worth of firearms.
Little Known Facts
When Elvis invited the Beatles to his home in Hollywood, August 27, 1965 all media and photographers were forbidden. But according to John Lennon recollections of the event the five sang each other's songs and the unique session was recorded. What happened to the tape is a mystery to Graceland executives who have over the years conducted a worldwide search to locate the tape- but to no avail. Even one song by Elvis and the Beatles would reap untold royalties indeed. However, inside sources believe Colonel Parker may have it in his possession. (Elvisnews.com: we don't believe this)
The Weird And Wonderful
In 1961, Elvis Presley was invited to appear at the Royal Command Variety Performance before Queen Elizabeth. Elvis did not accept, because Colonel Parker had insisted that Elvis be presented to Her Majesty. Such a condition was out of the question. Had the Colonel realised that all stars appearing in the show are always presented to the Royal party before the performance, Presley would have surely met the Queen. His request was refused and he was never asked again.
