Elvis The Documentaries Volumes 1 And 2

Released in line with Joe Tunzi’s “The Documentaries” book are two CDs from the Dutch EFE fan club.

Design

The design of volume 1 follows Joe Tunzi’s book almost 1 on 1, the second volume has a more modern design. The 8 pages booklets are nicely designed with lots of images and memorabilia, we miss some liner notes. The CDs are presented as promotional CDs and are limited to 500 copies.

Content

What to say of the content of releases like these two? These talking only releases contain only talking and some snippets of music and Elvis singing. It is Elvis, it is material from two great documentaries but still you will probably spin these releases only once. Just as with Tunzi’s book on the documentaries, there is so much great footage – image and sound – available lately that just reading the book and browsing black and white images or listening to the spoken soundtrack isn’t that exciting. Listening to these CDs it is kind of “sitting in” with the King, something we would have liked to do, if only for a minute. You pick up a few new facts, but at the end you say, heart that, done that.

Conclusion

These two CDs should have been released as a package with Joe Tunzi’s book, making it more of an audiovisual package.
